Anyone know where the silver foil cards come from and how diffuicult are they to obtain?

1996 Fleer - Silver Foil, Gold Foil, Tiffany

The Silver Foils are from the 1996 Fleer Team Sets, a similar concept to the Donruss and Score team sets of the same era. Each team had 20 cards, and I think most of the teams had them; they were issued in 10 cards packs in team-specific boxes. The numbering the giveaway; the Team Sets cards are numbered 'X of 20'.

To further complicate matters, there is "silver foil" variation on the Tiffany parallel. NOT the team set cards, but pack-issued from 1996 Fleer. I once owned two copies of Mike Sweeney's RC like this.

Right after I responded, I noticed there is no 1996 Fleer Yankees team set. I don't recall hearing of or seeing these silver foils before, and I wish I hadn't because now I have lots of extra cards to look for!

Wow. What an interesting thread. It made me grab my box of doubles and check the backs for all of these little differences. I havent found anything yet. Nuthin like the totally different back on my MVP Bagwell like Predators, and havent found different Pinnacle Brand logos on my Summits. Never paid that close attention to the backs. Now I have to go thru all the common boxes at my LCS just to double check. oh god, my OCD is kicking in!!!

But if there were anything different between a couple of cards I have wanted to know about, it is this:

I have a decent number of extras of the darker, but only one with that lighter color. Has anyone else run across this?

And then theres this from 95 Stadium Club. I have quite a few extras where the color of the foil is a rainbow of colors, but i also have quite a few where the foil is all in red. Anyone else? (Sorry, the scans didnt quite pick up the color of the foil)

Well, I started goin thru my doubles and found different 92 Donruss cards with the "INC" and the "INC." Do you guys consider the lack of a period a "different card"? Opinions?

I do, but I have been unable to get any variations from 1992 Donruss. I collect all the Donruss INC variations from 1989 through 1991, it's an easy way to bring extra value to junk wax like this. For example, unless I'm missing something, there are at least 8 different varities of the 1990 Donruss Harold Baines All Star, involving the INC/INC., Recent Major League Performance/All Star Game Performance, and the Line through the star on front/No Line. Will Clark has a whole bunch, too. And I'll get 'em all if I can!

Well, this just swung me over to the "Different Card" side. The 92 Stadium Club CLEARLY has E or F, and A or B. So now I am comparing my doubles box with my PC. I'm gonna have to add a "Variations" section to my PC Website, noting the differences. I have already added 3 cards to my 91's and 6 to my 92's. Most were the INC/INC. and the Stad Club letters, but then I also noticed a definite difference in the shade of blue used on the back of one of my 92 Diamond Kings. Out of 5 cards, one was totally lighter in the shade of blue. Is that a variation? Oh well, on to 93!

They were printed over three different years so you'll see some date 1977, others 1978, and the really tough ones, 1979. I'd only count the variation if it was different within the same year.

I'll have to group these by year then figure out the trademark lines. I was so excited when I first saw the "C" that I didn't notice the other differences until I took a good look. I wish more sellers would display front and back when they list these because I feel like such a dink asking a bunch of people to look up the trademark line on a $2 card.

For what it's worth, the three cards initially brought up as variations by the Rose collector are 1977 copyrights if you check his site.

I had the itch and bought 14 sealed 1986 Donruss Highlights sets over the weekend for $10 hoping to land a white letter error.

So, speaking of it, does anyone know EXACTLY how the WL errors were distributed? Meaning if one card was a WL, was the entire set filled with them too? Or was it just a random WL error or two in a set?

As a side note, for anyone with sealed 1990 Topps Rak packs (and perhaps Cellos), if you see a Jeff Juden card on top, more than likely a Frank Thomas is in that pack as well. Thats the pattern.

I bought a HUGE lot of stuff and in it were 3-4 Raks with Juden on top and each one had a Thomas inside....corrected.

1984 O'Connell & Sons Ink First Series Variations. I'm making a best guess here, but what I think may have happened is that he printed the first series and then went back and started doing additional series. When he had finished, people started asking for complete sets, so he needed to go back and reprint the first series because they were all gone. At that point he decided to make some improvements. Almost all of the cards with a red background had the standard black print replaced with black print surrounded by a white highlight, a technique he used throughout subsequent series.

For the Rose he even moved the name from the top to the bottom of the card and on the Minoso he removed the neck, moved the number and removed the copyright.

Another variation was the background color. The Henderson and Boggs cards were changed from green to red.

The final variation is from a color to no color at all. Maybe he ran out of ink? Not sure. I've verified this variation on the Strawberry and Murphy but there may be others.

This variation is the 1987 Topps Sticker blue ink/black ink variation. I never paid much attention to ti because the Foil stickers always had black ink and the regular stickers always used blue ink on the back so I didn't think it was a true variation.

However, what they meant was that the Foil stickers had a variation where most of the time they used black ink for the printing and other times they used blue ink. I'm seeing about a 10 to 1 ratio on stickers that I have.

4) Regular Issue - blue ink variation

It is funny you posted this because I was about to start a thread about this. I have all of the Ozzie variations listed above but I was wondering this. Shouldn't there be an Ozzie Smith #46 with a black back? I don't have one and have never seen one. Wasn't the blue back the regular issue and the black is the rarity? Do you have one or does this combo just not exist? I need help!!

This variation is the 1987 Topps Sticker blue ink/black ink variation. I never paid much attention to ti because the Foil stickers always had black ink and the regular stickers always used blue ink on the back so I didn't think it was a true variation.

However, what they meant was that the Foil stickers had a variation where most of the time they used black ink for the printing and other times they used blue ink. I'm seeing about a 10 to 1 ratio on stickers that I have.

1) Regular Issue - with black ink
2) OPC
3) Hard Back Test Issue
4) Regular Issue - blue ink variation

Every one of the non-foil 1987 Topps Stickers that I have has blue print on the back. I don't think the black print variation on the non-foil stickers exists.
