After looking on ebay...I can tell its a Manny Ramirez version simply by the outline on the card underneath the black.

Personally I do not see an un-peeled premium on these cards, who knows what 10 more years in the shoe box will bring. I still say peel that bad boy.

AHHH! you and your itchy fingers! its not a refractor cause it says "refractor" if it is and refractor or not, the the 1999 topps mystery finests dont sell well, even a bonds refractor would be hard press to break 5 bucks starting at .99.

again, for those with itchy fingers, what do you do when it comes to these to sets.

1998 finest refractor and 1998 finest no-protector refractor
2002 finest x-fractor /299 and 2002 finest x-fractor protector /99

if you peel the 1998 to make it look like the no-protector, you can still tell from the back, which also has a refractor finish
and if you peel the 2002, well you just devalued the card to look like the /299 x-fractor.......hhmmmm, huh what say you!

Few you peel, most you do not. The black film cards is always a peel imho. Upon release these held a "unpeeled" value, today not so much.

If there is no premium for leaving the protective film on, and I think Mr. C would know, you should peel if you are keeping the card.

Like I said I dont peel most cards........as for the 1997 Platinums, the only ones that are peeled had damaged peels.

BTW, I have been emailed about Finest peels, there is a premium since the player pictured on the card can be seen through the peel.

For those of you who do peel your cards, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a premium for unpeeled versions in the future and you guys will want an unpeeled one too. I know I'd much rather have an unpeeled card than a peeled one graded gem mint.

For me when it comes to peel or not. I will not peel the first card I get. But I will look to get a double of the card so I can peel it and have one peeled and one unpeeled.

George- beautiful cards.

I'm a peeler. The thing I don't get is it says right on the peel: "Peel off" :)

Exactly. To each their own, but I don't want a piece of clear plastic that says "peel off" 50 times and reduces the vibrance of my card, particularly when it is encased. Those covers were placed on the cards after early chrome cards (1993) often had scratching problems. They are not "part of the card." However, if you plan to resell then keeping the peel makes sense because you then can sell to those that like to peel and those who want the protector.

I can only speak for myself, but I leave the plastic on because that is the original way the card was distributed. I agree the cards look better without the plastic, but if I have my choice, I will always take the plastic on.

With that said, it isn't always easy to get gem card with the peel on, so I guess I make exceptions if it will give my card a better grade and protection.

One of my most wanted cards to acquire this year has been on the list for several years now:
'96 Select Certified Mirror Gold Greg Vaughn
If any of you 90's gurus can ever point me in the right direction...I've still yet to see one
