Here is something I had forgotten about as I am rebuilding my website. Interesting variations in 1996 Fleer and Flair.

I think the Flair thing is common knowledge (but what do I know, it was 14 years ago!)
regular (silver lettering on gold background) vs gold variation (gold lettering on silver background)

Fleer had the regular and the Tiffany versions.

well, there is also a silver version (non Tiffany)

As well as a gold version of the Tiffany (which I have seen, but was not able to acquire!!!) Happy Hunting!

I enjoy seeing your Frymans- i collected him for a short stint in the 90's if I can locate what i have I'll pass it along to you. I might have a few bricks of his RC's too.

Is the # the same as teh others on the silver foil 96 Fleer- I think that might be the team issue version. If so it should have a different #. Have never heard of a gold tiffany version on those 96 Fleers- anybody else have any info on those?

I checked the back and it is the same numbering, so not from a team issued set. I am just peeved that I didn't save a picture copy of the gold tiffany version! any other time I do, crud!

Not sure if anyone saw this old post by HawaiianLance in the Thomas thread or not

To make up for the delay. Here's one I've been saving for a rainy day:
It's a 1996 Select Certified Mirror Gold Proof.
No joke.

The provenance is impeccable and impervious - this came from The Bob Lemke Collection/Archives. It was sent to him direct by Pinnacle, along with other samples from the other '96 issues.

You can see it still has the 'crop marks' - the line indicators that printers use to align where to cut the cards from the master sheets.
I know this board hates long stories, so I won't get into what I consider an equally interesting tale about the holder this card is resting in. It's designed for a Topps card circa 1952-1955, it's THAT big.

I absolutely robbed a seller on eBay. All four of these for $1 shipped.

1995 Select Artist's Proof

1998StudioSilverPressProof.jpg

1998 Studio Silver Press Proof

I've never seen one of these before (of Kile at least)

1998 Topps Stars Gold Rainbow /99

2000SkyboxStarRubiesExtreme.jpg

2000 Skybox Star Rubies Extreme /50

I have looked forward to the Rubies Extreme card for a while. I always thought it looked amazing. But I have to say, it doesn't look as great in person. Scanners really help this card pop. It is somewhat difficult to see the pattern without looking at it at a very strange angle.

The 1999's looks SO much better in hand. Its almost impossible to see the stars in hand, but its still a nice rare card to knock off the checklist.

The seller probably thought the same about getting the $1 from you. ;) Kidding of course! That is an awesome purchase, nice to see you snag some new Kiles for your collection. Adding this kind of quality/rarity is an added bonus for sure. So the whole lot was $1 shipped? A quarter a piece with free shipping? If that is the case, you didn't rob the guy, you ***** him.

Nice bgs!
Well, besides me and this guy that recently started bidding the int'l refs (that seems to have bottomless pockets), the next highest bid was $175.

As an FYI, when you are bidding big bucks on this set, be sure to get scans of both front and back. The centering on the back can be horrendous even though the centering on the front looks ok. It is a much bigger problem with Series 2 than Series 1 (so it may not affect you), but I thought you might want to know.
