I have been meaning to ask you guys about this, but have never gotten around to it yet. It is regarding the 1999 Skybox Premium Autographics set. I know there was a black ink version and a blue ink version /50. I believe all of the blue inks were hand serial #'d correct? I have one below that is definitely blue ink but has no serial #'ing on it. Any thoughts on what this is? Here are the 2 for comparison so you can tell it is indeed a Blue Ink version:

I could be wrong and not know what I'm talking about but realistically, I don't see that card selling for even a fraction of what he has it listed for. Maybe he doesn't care to sell it and just wants to see if someone will pay an insane amount. I really don't know, that's why I visit the 90's experts for some edumacation lol

I don't think the embossed refractors have a die cut. I have the silver embossed refractor from this set. It just has a weird box rainbow colored pattern on the front.

The gold embossed refractors are die cut.

You might be surprised how much the uncut cards sell........With appox 32 of the die cuts inserted into packs how many un-cut/un-embossed have you seen? No it wont sell for the BIN; that is why there is a BO option.

Hey guys, need your help. What's a realistic price to pay for this? How rare are they? I've never seen it before. Why does it say PROOF at the end?

George - Can you elaborate a little more on exactly what these are? I have never heard of them either. Are they gold embossed refractors without the die-cut? Were they inserted into packs this way and just missed a step in the production process where they were supposed to be cut? Or was it some type of production sample that was backdoored by an employee?

Your first half of your first sentence is eerily true... The non-die-cut embossed gold refractors are rare and die-hard player collectors will pay a lot for them.
Shoot, the "regular" die-cut embossed gold refractor versions are rare enough (< 100)

Thanks for the responses guys. Keep in mind, my guy is Caminiti. I'm not used to paying a whole lot for his cards lol

I understand player collectors tend to spend more than what a certain card should go for some times but how many Caminiti collectors are out there? I think a rare card collector or set collector might pick it up.

There are 30 of these and I bought it for 43 bucks. Probably the most I ever spent on a Cammy card minus the precious metals and crusades. Just trying to figure out a good price to offer without being insulting.

Different product by far; but I understand your thought process. Many of the Totally would be selling much higher but I stopped bidding on many of them after I finished the set. I once would bid $75 on all commons just to protect my investment.

1997 Finest Gold Die Cut Embossed refractors are 1 in 8.5 cases and an appox PR of 27-32. Commons from the set normally sell for $75-150.

The Un-Cuts were Topps Proofs, Exc samples etc (some type of in-house sample). I currently own 3 players and I dont think that I have ever seen more than 2 or 3 of any one player (If anyone has please let us know). I am not sure the last player to hit ebay.

Thanks for the info. I am not totally lost now lol

I just looked at the completed listings and two Tony Gwynn gold embossed refractors were sold. One for 76 and one for 151. Why such a difference? I wouldn't call him a common.

I guess I don't put that much of a premium on it for it being uncut but that's just me.

Had this, but it's a centering upgrade:

I always steered away from the 97 Leaf Fractal Matrix because the die-cuts look goofy, but I recently realized how nice the non die-cuts look:

BGS 9 fell flat on bids. Maddux just sold $450 and I have sold offers on Hurt and Juan.

While we are on the topic - If anyone know where I can find a 1997 Finest Gold Embossed Refractor of Barry Larkin, it is on my top 5 most wanted cards list. I still need that one.
