I was taking a look down my Belle checklist today and noticed I don't have (at least marked) either 1997 Pinnacle Certified Mirror Black cards (#17 and #140)... can anyone show me what these look like? I don't think they're rare, so I'm confused why I wouldn't have them yet... maybe confused with the 1997 Pinnacle Certified base which are also black?

I thought the mirror blacks were 1/1?

Sent from my DROID X2 using Sports Cards by Freedom Card Board.com

This is what Beckett has to say...

This set was an unnanounced very scarce parallel version of the Pinnacle Certified base set, probably the result of a few test sheets being cut and inserted by mistake into packs. These cards give off a bright green reflection when placed in direct light, but are silver with black print when placed away from light. It is not known for sure if all 150 cards exist. No pricing is available due to the scarcity of the cards.

I had a Ripken back in 1997-1998. From my recollection they look just like the base cards except with the mirror(refractor) finish. I don't think they are labeled. I think rumor had it was something they were testing and some go into packs. I don't remember them being advertised as an insert in packs. Here are pictures of a few I found online

I hate how some '90s inserts were just unmarked and had a "refractor finish". Not only does this make it that much harder to find but then people don't even know what they have. I feel like in my 5,000 doubles of Belle, I probably have a lot of the base cards... now I have to go back through and double check none have this "finish" ::facepalm::

Picked these up, presumably from board members, I know the Andruw gold was from a member for sure. Thinking about going after both sets..

LMK if you decide to do this set. I started on it, but have cut back on my collecting lately. I think I have around 20 of them so far.

Where did you find this?

Those 1997 Mirror Blacks are mine. There were inserted into packs during the 5th+ printing. It is unclear if 1 sheet was printed or the whole set. I have never seen a double of any player and I have never seen more than a handful. I buy everyone I can find (passed on McGwire so it could live in the McGwire Museum). I recently added Giles (off to PSA soon). Mo heading back to have the label fixed. It was my first purchase and at a steal since the PSA label was wrong.

Interesting. I've never seen a Belle, have you? I guess I could add them as 1/1s on my checklist? I will still check my huge lot of Belle doubles to just make sure one isn't hanging out in there but from the sounds of it that will be a waste of time lol

I have never seen the Belle. Several more are listed in the PSA website.
