I disagree, but it's just a personal opinion. Uninspired design and a simple change of foil to lettering makes a great variation? Not to me. It's not the worst, but far from the best.

But still a relatively tough parallel and one I'd want in my player collection.

I still remember when these came out. I Still find them from time to time, and my instict is to buy it, even when I already have one. The plastic feel like a credit card, with the raised numbers for stats... And the back with its signature line? To me a Super Sweet Insert...

And dont forget the Platinum card...

Hmm.. I should bust em out and rescan them to show their rounded corners...

I love the 97 platinums. Why does it often seem to be the first version is the best? Why later issues fell in love with the pewter background I'll never know.

While the design may be uninspired, to just call the foil "foil" is an understatement. It absolutely shimmers and it so effortlessly catches light, unlike some other cards that attempt to do the same thing. You can tell it's a platinum from across the room. The Ultra emblem getting the foil effect is also a nice touch.

nosterbor - nice catch on that Juan Gone. I just can't tell the difference between the Grand Finale and Gold unless they're next to each other.

no matter how you scan them the background of the hologram in the grand always has a bronze/gold dark tint to it. 1st is gold the 2nd is the grand.

Congrats on the Grand Finale. Putting them side by side you can really tell them apart from just the hologram. And the seller didnt want to end it at 20? You scored my man! way to go!

Some recent COMC pick-ups. For some reason, I always end up with less than $2-3.00 in my account whenever I add money to purchase something specific. So it's become almost a little game for me to find the coolest stuff for my PC with these little remainders of change in my account. Here is a very successful example:

Does anyone have any info on where the 1997 Ultra Irabu comes from? It's serial-numbered out of 500, number CE1 on back.

did anyone here pick this up?

i was watching it--looks like the seller ended the auction early and did a BIN. I think this is the grand finale? I would have gladly paid much more than the BIN :(

please PM me if you were the lucky bidder...
looks like a grand to me . i would have bought it.

Didn't occur to me to offer the seller an offline price..I had a bid on it and the seller cancelled it and then obviously relisted.

Is it common practice to offer seller's a price to get them to end the auction early?

if anyone knows who won it--again, please ping me...

Yes, it is common practice. While I do not like it, I have ended up having to participate. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Sometimes I actually forget to be sneaky and it costs me. In regards to Rusty Greer cards I know will get attention, I say something along the lines of, "Please do not end this auction early as I intend on bidding. If you are tempted to end this auction early, please give me an opportunity to top what you are being offered."

The last time I did this the seller had already received PayPal for the backdoor deal, but backed out on that guy since I said I would double his price. Sneaky is as sneaky does.

I do it all of the time and will continue to do so. We all hate to get beat on a good deal, but no one complains when they're able to get a deal over someone else. I've been a big winner and I've been too little too late. It's part of the chase really.

I feel your tactic tips your hand significantly. By offering a price to end the auction, you are already tipping your hand and possibly letting the seller know the item is somewhat valueable, in the very least to you. By going the extra step of offering to outbid another person, I think you are giving way too much information. To each his own I guess, just not a tactic I would use.

As everyone has said, it is a common practice to have auctions ended early for a price. I usually just offer a price I would pay or ask what it will take to end the auction early. I too have had luck and have lost out.

The best is when you offer a fair price and the person declines due to greed or whatever reason and you win it for far less. I really love those moments. Congrats to Nosterbor for accomplishing that recently!
