Isn't making the observation that "Hip Hop= Black" racists in and of itself? I enjoy hip hop and all that comes with it, and I happen to be Caucasian. Thus bballkid hates me, and all others that enjoy hip-hop, white or black.

Get a charlie card, dude. $1.70 each way. I always had a monthly pass so I was paying less than that too.

I can't believe I was subject to hear two people's "Fav 5 international players" and it doesn't get better: coming up next is Kobe's journey. Token hip hop wannabe Stu Scott is also at the helm of the show and Van Gundy is rattling on about his favorite Kanye song. That was after he started babbling about the pointlessness of bringing a glove to a baseball game. The NBA is trying uncomfortably hard to be cool.

The NBA is too hip hop, so I don't even watch it.

It was my favorite sport up until about 10 years ago, now it's just a comedy show.

The bold just means "I don't want to sound racist, but the NBA is too black for me"

Well it wouldn't sound right if I did come out and say that. Some may get that impression, but MJ was my favorite player, as was Sammy in baseball. I'm just not a fan of overpaid 18 year olds sporting gold chains and nice grills who try to act like rappers. Give me some scrappy veterans like Malone, Stockton, David Robinson, MJ, Magic, Isiah, Bird, etc.

Fair enough. I guess I didn't notice the gold chains since I'm pretty sure they don't wear them while playing and are forced to wear suits when going to or leaving a game. I'm not sure what you mean by "acting like rappers."

Whatever, it's clear that you just want to argue. I'm entitled to my opinion, and it makes me happy.[/quote:2hk9mj5h]

You certainly are. I'm not saying you can't at all. I just don't get it and usually hearing stuff like "it's to hip hop" usually just means "too black" since I don't see how something is too hip hop when they wear team uniforms and suits. Dwight Howard had to leave the bench when he was sitting out a game and was wearing a shirt, tie, and sweater vest.[/quote:2hk9mj5h]

There are cameras on the players outside of the game...

00-Allen+Iverson+-+40+Bars.jpg

What a great way to market the league.[/quote:2hk9mj5h]

You can look across any league and find bad apples, bad use of Judgement. MLB/NFL/NBA/NHL its all there, these people are human too. The argument about gold chains is pretty funny, considering a lot of MLB players have chains on while they play. You also mentioned age, and these young kids with lots of money, Prospect's are subject to this too(see Matt Bush).[/quote:2hk9mj5h]

I wish people would learn how to connect the dots and use rational logic. I find it humorous that people are coming to the conclusion that I am "anti-gold chains." I am anti the thug culture that is what the NBA is today. Sorry, just how I feel. That's why I watch baseball.

The age argument is actually quite valid. The NBA does NOT have a minor league system. The MLB does. In order for a player to reach the bigs, they must perform, not just in a draft workout. In the NBA, you just have to be drafted in the first round I believe and your guaranteed a roster spot.[/quote:2hk9mj5h]

Not really.

Still don't understand Thug life being part of the NBA and not the MLB. There are multiple players in the MLB that have done bad things, such as beat their wife, do drugs etc. Same with the NFL and same with the NBA. Its not sport related, its human related. The dots seem to be connecting towards some kind of prejudice to race.[/quote:2hk9mj5h]

That's hilarious on so many levels, but think what you wish.[/quote:2hk9mj5h]
I guess if you say something bad about some people, and they happen to be black it's racist. :?[/quote:2hk9mj5h]

I did a lot of walking too when I lived there, but the Charlie card is free. I'd just keep $10 on it so I'd have it if I needed it.

For me, the two things that hurt the NBA most are the inconsistencies in both the play, and the refereeing. First the players seem like they just go through the motions for 3 quarters and then play for real in the last. Secondly, the refereeing is very inconsistent compared to the past. Guys get away with so much today that didn't exist before. Part is to blame on the refs, but I think a majority is that the game and athleticism has surpassed the original intent of the game. The rules were established when guys weren't dunking, going around their back, crossing over people, etc. All these advancements have made it nearly impossible to ref fairly with the original rules in place. The game has gone from jump shooting to driving and dunking. It's pretty easy to judge a foul on a jump shot, but much harder on a drive.

This is the main reason why baseball is now my favorite sport, while basketball was when I was growing up. Baseball seems to be the most fair and honest as far as rules, and effort. It's a rare combination of a team sport that also singles out players. There is motivation to play all out every time called upon in baseball, because you are basically by yourself both on offense and defense, and if you screw it up everyone knows. There's no hiding it. Also, the rules are much more clear cut. The most objective thing is strikes, and at least the batter has three chances if he gets screwed once on a bad call.

Yea, I know where you are talking about. Not too many Sox games unless I get tickets for free from work. FW Webb took me to their seats last year for a Yankees game. We were in the 2nd row of the State Street Pavilion right behind home plate. I still head in occasionally to hang out with friends still in the area. I was just there this weekend and went to Unos on Huntington to grab dinner and drinks with some friends.

All valid points. The refereeing drives me nuts now. I was literally yelling at my tv when Wade was getting every call in the world against the Mavs in the finals. For me there is just too much amazing talent in the league and great things going on to give up on it just because of some bad calls.
