Panini America lands MLBPA baseball card license

Panini America and the Major League Baseball Players Association have signed a multi-year deal giving the Texas-based division of the world’s largest collectibles company the right to make MLBPA-approved baseball cards beginning this year.

The debut product under the MLBPA deal will be 2011 Elite Extra Edition, a prospect-focused offering, while hot on its tracks will be 2011 Contenders, which will include Josh Hamilton autographs as well as the All-Star outfielder on the product’s packaging.

I long ago forgot the differences between the MLBPA licensing and the MLB licensing. Doesn't this just mean that they can produce cards with current major league players, but not have use of the logos and uniform pictures?

I do feel that Panini as a company has hit a creative road block.After a full season of product they all start to look alike.Not much variance from year to year either.

Short of having the Players Association on board, how are they going to "present major league baseball players in a unique and exciting way?" Will caps and unis be photoshopped with the Panini Logo?
