Patch Experts - REAL OR FAKE???

I have seen threads where the patch guys evaluate, i do not know how you guys judge, but i have absolutely no clue how to tell. Although it is a baseball forum, and this is a football card, i know that the experts as far as i have seen live in the baseball forum as i have seen plenty of UD, Donruss threads and i know that a lot of bad patches have been pointed out and that is why i posted it in here. If the majority of people can not tell because they are not educated in football products then i will also post it in the football forum but i wanted the baseball guys to take a look at it.

I need help with this Patch. It says Prime Jersey, and it is numbered / 15. I would think that it if it was faked, then maybe the person would position the B upright. But what do you guys think??? Wouldn't it say "Prime Patch"???

2009 Pro Bowl

Unless they practice in a 2nd identical jersey , i don't know how many events are held during the pro bowl week where they actually sport jerseys like this. I really hate the vague "EVENT" worn description. Can't they just say "this was used in the pro bowl<

They use prime jersey for years at DLP, Plus it states Event worn so the value on it my mind is not the same as a regular game jersey. I have saw a few caliber patches like this from pro bowl jerseys used by Panini over the past two years. I say its legit.

I almost posted about that patch cuz it looked really sweet. I know nothing about the football patches though. I assume they are faked just as much as the baseball ones are. I just don't have the funds to get one right now, so I let it go.

Could of changed at half time so they recieved a jersey for promotional payments. Event worn makes me think of rookie photo shoots, They wore it for a 10 minute span and changed. Thats why I will not buy or keep SPA patch autos for football or any other rookie material. Its like buying a jersey off the rack and letting the player hold it and putting it in a card. Could be from the press meet and greet also or a group photo. Great patch but probably not worn in the game.

I say real. I've seen many different pro bowl used with nice patches. it probably wasn't used in the game though.

I say real. You can send it to Panini for authentication too.

Event may be media day too, don't they usually wear their jersey's?

I lean towards real.
1) It's a low numbered card.
2) It says 'prime' on it.
3) The silver cutout would make it hard to slip a patch in without damage, although the edges look a little dull compared to the rest.
4) A faker would probably put it in right-side up.

On the other hand
1) The wear aroudn the eges of the cutout might be an indication of shenanigans.
2) It looks like there are semi-circular dents or something on the edges where the little black rhombuses are. I can't tell what they are. They are on the back, too, though, so maybe it's part of the design.
3) Can't tell how thick the card is or see the edges, so it might've had a complete facelift.
4) Any patch of that quality always has a 'too-good-to-be' taint.

Donruss/Panini used jerseys worn at events the week of the Pro Bowl for their Absolute TOTT, Limited Lettermen and Limited Pro Bowl Combos in 2009. So all of the publicity events that took place leading up to the game, where players would maybe wear a jersey along with a pair of shorts/jeans - those are where they get the patches from, not from the actual Pro Bowl game, itself.

If I was guessing, I would probably say that patch is legit, although I also tend to think that if something is too good to be true, then it probably is. Gellman from Sports Cards Uncensored is fairly good at picking out fake patches - maybe shoot him a message?

At first glance, it looks fake, the background material appears to fit very loosely in the recess.

You need to go deeper and do some more research on who is offering this patch for sale- look at his other items, what else has this seller purchased, is he from North Carolina , etc. etc. what is the provenance of the patch card you have for sale.

It's sad, but any sick patch must almost be assumed to be faked nowadays unless its authenticity can be corroborated with an actual scan from the company website (UD did this for many of it's highlight patches from exquisite BK this past year and the Cup - some of the patches i pulled would have been deemed fake by the public had they not been published by the card companies in their promo web pages).

but i believe you are asking the wrong question... are you asking about items on ebay? then i always ask, first, who is the seller? if the seller is a known, PROVEN scammer then you have answered any and all questions now and forever... never buy nothing from scammers and you will be safe, plus if you boycott them, some will stop selling bogus cards also, report scammers to ebay, they do get their accounts closed, do not use foul language in your complains or they will be ignored

you will save yourself a lot of trouble, heartache and money by keeping a list of known ebay scammers and NEVER buy anything from them
