2010 is already a blur for Giants fan. Soon the Cory Rose home run memories will be gone and they will be watching
the D Backs in the playoffs.

You never know, the Giants still have a half game lead in the division and there are 50 games left, almost a third of the season. A long time to succeed or fail. As a matter of fact many teams have fallen from leads as large as the Phillies have in the final 50 games. Remember the Mets a couple of years ago.

I couldn't name one player on the Dbacks, and you are up a half a game on that? Congrats. The mets would
still be in it if they played in the NL West.

Nope the Mets would be 7 out in the West.

The Giants have the 7th best record in baseball, they lead the West, would be a half game out in the AL West, they would lead the AL Central by two games and be one game back in the NL Central. Plus if they fall behind the D-Backs they would be 3 out of the Wild-Card.

Funny a team with such horrid hitters, and a slew of injuries to key players, are still in an excellent position to make the playoffs. Add in the experience of winning it all last year, which was supposed to be the difference between the Giants and Phillies pitching staffs last post season, and the Giants have an even better chance of getting back to the post season.

Everyday lineup has a huge advantage to the Phillies. Only Beltran and Sandoval would crack the Phillies starting lineup. The Phillies have an advantage with the starting pitching as well. Halladay/Lincecum is a toss up, but with the other four matchups I'll take the Phillies starter. Bullpen is a pretty big advantage for the Giants as they have established roles with relievers that have been successful. The Phillies pen has been pretty solid this year, but they are all in new roles so I'd much prefer the Giants bullpen at this point.

Ryan Howard -vs- Aubrey Huff
Utley -vs- Keppinger
Rollins -vs- Orlando Cabrera
Polanco -vs- Sandoval
Chooch -vs- Eli Whiteside
Ibanez -vs- Beltran
Victorino -vs- Andres Torres
Pence -vs- Cody Ross

Halladay -vs- Lincecum
Cliff Lee -vs- Matt Cain
Hamels -vs- Bumgarner
Oswalt -vs- Vogelsong
Worley -vs- Sanchez

Bastardo/Stutes/Lidge -vs- Lopez/Affeldt/Ramirez
Madsen -vs- Brian Wilson

This is true but we could have made the same comparison last season and we know how that turned out. Stats looks great on paper, but sometimes it doesn't translate to the field. Personally I'd take the healthy Giants line-up over the Phillies but that's because I think they play with more heart.....but I'm biased.

CF-Torres
2B-F. Sanchez
C-Posey
RF-Beltran
3B-Sandoval
1B-Huff
LF-Ross
SS-(Whichever statue they decide to use)

I'd take a healthy Posey over Chooch, but Utley is vastly superior to Sanchez. Torres, Huff, and Ross all played well over their heads last year and have just returned to their normal talent level this year. Even with Posey, this years Giants everyday lineup doesn't matchup favorably to the Phillies lineup. Heart is tough to measure, but the Phillies have consistently come back to win games in the 8th and 9th over the last five years, they definitely do not lack heart.

The Giants have 10 walk off wins this season, the most in the big leagues. I'd give the edge to the Giants based on their ability to pull out close games, that type of experience is invaluable.

Giants = 0.5 Game lead in the West
Phillies = 8.5 Game lead in the East

Giants = 11 games over .500
Phillies = 34 games over .500

Giants = 3-7 in their last 10 games
Phillies = 8 Wins in a row

Giants = .500 on the road
Phillies = 11 Games over .500 on the road

West Record = 275-287
East Record = 302-258

I am not going to go into team ERA, team batting average, team HRs ect.... do the numbers not speak for themselves. Phillies have 4 straight division titles... giants have 1?

Seriously.

All that matters is head to head and in the post season even that doesn't matter. Seriously it doesn't.

Yep, anything can happen in a short series. We'll find out who the better team is today.

Phils pick up where they left off last night with two runs scored in the first (one courtesy of less than stellar Giant defense).

Yeah, seems to be the way the Giants have played the last 9 games, give up a bunch in the 1st and play catch up the rest of the game. Cain threw a great game other than the 1st, only 3 hits allowed. Come on Giants get something going in the 9th.

waaaay too much Cole Hamels.

Where's Howard been in the series 1 for 8 with 5 strikeouts

He was off last game and has played spectacular defense, he knows he doesn't need to do much when your pitching
staff rocks and you are playing a team you couldn't hit a single in a phone booth.

He doesn't even need to pitch well, he can throw them in the heart of the plate and watch the Giants roll over the ball...Lincecum can't allow any runs if the Giants are going to win.

The Giants offense is in a funk (which is sad considering they weren't very good before). I still expect the additions of Beltran, Cabrera, etc. to be positive ones. The pitching in the first game and today has been decent and honestly you can't expect Cain or Bumgarner to do better. Hopefully, the Giants can go back to their usual pattern of scoring 3-4 runs, which at this point would be an improvement.

Yeah, the glare from the trophy got in the Giants eyes, makes it tough to hit...... :D
