I assume everyone has seen the video of Jackie Robinson stealing home in the opening game of the 1955 World Series in Yankee Stadium. This is the scene in which Jackie steals home and is called safe and Yogi Berra goes nits because he felt he had him out at the plate. Yogi contends to this day that he was indeed out but the umpire saw otherwise. I had always thought that Jackie had stolen home plate on a very close play but after seeing a series of photos a few days ago I may have to change my mind.
I was able to find a series of photos that were taken by different photographers that chronicled the Robinson stolen base caper. This series of four photos shows the intense look on Jackie's face as he is in the middle of this crime and the eventual encounter with Berra at the plate. You decide for yourself if you think he was out or safe. But while you are deciding that pay close attention to the detail of these photos as they really are cool.
So what do you think? Out or safe?
