One of the reasons I've liked these boards is that everyone could enjoy each other's collections and we all got along, helping each other out. I think to make a competition out of it is useless, and reminds me too much of the crap from the "other" boards. How can anyone say who has the better collection? I don't even know who "won" the competition on the "other" board, because I thought it was useless then, too. I am sure the same guys will be in the running. I wouldn't trade one of my Gwynn cards for a 98% complete Glaus or Chavez collection (No offense) for example. That's not saying I am not jealous. :D But why do we need to say it's the best? Let's discuss it, but don't make it a competition...

I know I don't post on here a lot, just like I didn't on the "other" boards, I'm no big name, so take my opinion for what it's worth...

I have to save up for college, pay car insurance and gas, so i can't really use much of the money from my job on cards (but i do some). If i had more spending room i'd go get super lincy on ebay :D

I agree with this 100%. What does this accomplish other than to tell several people that your collection isn't "as good" as the guy you're going up against? Besides, all the people that will vote on these have already enjoyed looking and admiring the collections that will inevitably be in the final 8 or so anyhow, so it isn't like it's unearthing collections nobody has ever seen before.

I agree with another poster, give the second place winner the prize...they need the money more. :)

I think some of you are looking at this all wrong. It's a "competition" in the lowest sense of the word. It's really just a great way to check out some other collections and it makes a fun game out of it to see how your collection stacks up. If someone is going to have their feelings hurt because they "lose" then they shouldn't be participating. I think no less of my collection if I lose in the first round, but it makes me feel even better about my collection even just getting a few votes or a couple nice comments during the voting process. It's good way to see what/how others collect or organize their collection. It gives me ideas as to what directions I can take my collection. All that and it gives everyone incentive to quit be lazy and start scanning and organizing their collection (I'm a big offender on this account).

the results of this will always be the same.. quantity and quality.. thumper and chavezcollector have it wrapped up because of the volume of auto's, GU'ed and 1/1's they own of their player to go along with the percent completion for year to year. This site is loaded with quality player collections.. its very hard to make a competition out of it thats even fair to the contestants. I personally like to share my collection with people but its not going to impress too many due to the era of the cards produced that are in my collection.. only the most hardcore of player collectors can respect and understand. These types of contests basically come down to what you can spend to put the most flash in your collection or your website.. I surely don't have either at the moment.

As many have said before, this competition would mainly be to share all of the collections with others. With the members on here, I can't see anyone getting too bent out of shape for getting eliminated. Just a fun way to get different people checking out your collections and getting comments.

That is not the case....every voter has their own criteria and vote for different reasons. For me I like a well balanced collection. And anyways it is just for fun, I enojy seeing everyones collection and how they have their bucket/website set up.

I'd be up to doing this again, there are several great Clark collectors here and I'd love to see how we all match up. My guess is that Josh will win but I'd be great to see everyones collections.

The part that would cause a problem is prizes. Just make it a win-nothing competition and it'll go fine.

I agree. If people want to send stuff to the winners after the fact that's fine, but we already have a good guess as to who will win. Might as well give the prize to the glaus/chavez collectors before.

Still bid of an advantage, but maybe everyone starts with two points (or slots) and the more rounds you win, you gain a point (or slot), at the end of the 'contest' prizes will be drawn randomly (and if oyu win more slots you have a better chance of getting a prize)> Maybe have multiple prizes

That's an interesting idea. If we decided to go with prizes that might be the best way to do it.

On a side note, no way am I trading Johan for Billingsley. If I wanted Billingsley that bad I would have taken him in the 2nd round instead of Johan ;)

Yea, I understand your problem with moving him. I just didn't know how worried you were with him having a broken leg, or if you had any interest in something like Wainwright+Closer for the buzzsaw.

I personally think no one has this thing wrapped up. Sure some of you have incredible collections but some are of guys whose cards are less expensive than say Griffey. Show me 100 awesome Griffeys and I will vote for that anyday over a collection of 1000 awesome 1 time All-Star player cards. For example, what would you rather have 1) 1996 Select Mirror Gold of Griffey or 2) 96 Mirror Gold, 93 Finest Refractor, 99 UD Patch, 98 Donruss Preview Auto all of John Doe? Either way I am going to enjoy the jaw dropping experience when some of you showcase your collections. I can't wait.

As someone also mentioned, it will ignite some of us to organize our collections on-line to show them off. I started last night. It only took me about 4 hours to get half of 1995 logged but at least I started.

I'm going to try and enter but I doubt I will have everything organized by the start time so maybe I can get in next year. In the meantime, here's three cards someone might like to see.
