Its clearly time for a salary cap in MLB. The recent actions of the Yankees is nothing short of a slap in the face to the American people as a whole. In a time when hundreds of thousands of people are out of work, hungry, loosing their retirement savings & their homes, for them to toss around half a billion dollars like it's nothing is nothing short of disgraceful. So they'll buy the World Series, big ******* deal. There are 30+ other teams in the league that would love to just write a check to win, but is that what the game's supposed to be about? I think not. No team in any league should be able to stack the deck like they have. It might be great for NY'ers & their new billion dollar stadium, but it sucks for the game of baseball.

Simple solution: salary cap.

Time for you, the Commisioner of Baseball, to put an end to this madness.

No thanks.

Spending alot of money for players doesnt equate to winning, look at the two teams in the world series. Although the phillies had a 90+ million dollar payroll, its still relatively low for the market they are in. Plain and simple, the new generation of steinbrenners are trying to win a world series the way that has already failed for George instead of doing what made them such a good team in the 90's, cultivating their own talent and plugging holes with good signings.

I say let them spend 500 million dollars, just more to laugh at when they fail and the snot nosed owners start blaming everyone but themselves...

Yeah, throw it all on the commissioner. Maybe you can draw up this ingenious plan. How exactly are you enforcing this cap when the Yankees are near $200 million? How are you going to convince MLB players that a salary cap is going to be needed. Good luck on that. The games will be played on the field. You can whine all day about the big bad Yankees spending the money that they have, but it isn't their job to worry about the state of baseball. It's their job to do the best they can to put the best team on the field. The idea of a salary cap is completely unrealistic in this game. It will never happen.

There's nothing wrong with the Yankees spending money

There is, however, something wrong with the Yankees whining like pathetic ******* about needing public financing to build their new stadium, then going out and signing players to $200 million plus contracts.

I really don't care what the Yankees spend their money. Actually they are only hurting themselves but doing it.
Sometimes throwing money at your problems don't help your problems :D
I think they have to does this every year, because they do not have much of a farm system, so they can't just move guys up to full in their needs.

Honestly, I don't care anymore. Yankee's fan can have their star studded line up. They can't just walk up to a ticket office on the day of a game, lay down a $20 and get a decent seat to watch a game. To me, that is priceless.

I'm no tycoon. I was able to do just that about five times last year.

I read yesterday that the Brewers just talked to the commish about this.. They are getting together w/ a few others teams to stir up the talk of a salary cap...which prob isnt too far off from reality.

Oh, it'll happen. The players will whine for awhile, then they'll start playing baseball again & the great game will go on & everyone will be better off for it.

& I'll be here to say "Told ya so!"

Havent the last few years of baseball shown that it really doesnt matter how much money you have and how much you spend. Do Yankee fans and the general baseball fans really think that the Yankees are any closer to winning anything than they ever have been???

Baseball is way too long of a season and way too much can happen that can affect the outcome of a game. Case in point--Rays and Phillies Last year, Cardinals the Year they won the WS, etc etc...

Fact is, in that division, I dont think the Yankees are gauranteed anything and if 1 or 2 guys get hurt, they will be fighting to make the playoffs again...

I would love to see some type of salary cap put in place to restore some type of competitive balance in the sport, whatever the cost. If that means a lockout similar to the one hockey went through a few years ago, so be it. I am quickly losing interest in a game where the same handful of teams are able to essentially buy a perennial playoff berth, while smaller market teams like the A's or Twins must make nearly flawless roster moves to stay in contention every year.
