I generally think the stickers look pretty cheap, but I understand why you and others choose to use them. If you limited it to only on-card autos, it might increase the appeal of the set and make the cards that do have auto variations more highly sought after?

If you do include stickers, make sure they're carefully applied straight. It's a doubly whammy when you get a sticker auto and it's been haphazardly stuck on the card. IMO it turns the card into instant junk!

I think stickers are fine if the eye appeal is there. Plenty of people have posted good looking sticker cards & ugly ones already in this thread.

If you need to go with a mix of on card/stickers in a set the design should include white area for the on card signers to sign & then clear stickers for the the sticker guys & when placed over the white it won't look as stickerish.

Im not a huge fan of stickers. But if you are going to have some stickers, I would rather see all stickers for consistancy reasons. Also, make the sticker fit the design of the card or make it clear.

I say do as many on card as you can, because that's what people want. Make the stickers clear so they look like the on card autos, and consistancy won't really be an issue.

BG,

I personally don't think there needs to be any sort of consistency.

I look forward to seeing the set!

I'm a weird old school set collector and in the minority, but I like uniformity. For this reason I would just as soon go with all stickers. At least keep them the same in the base set, maybe include on-card autos as an "insert" type set.

Make certain variations of the cards on card and have the regular autos be sticker. People seem to really love to bit(h about sticker autos. There are products out there where stickers don't suck people!

Some on card is better than none and as others have said, if done well stickers can still be done well and look nice. Personally I prefer the clear stickers when used.

sticker autos=companies cutting corners to save money.

If you want to boast on card autos then do it all, not just when it saves money. Look at the huge fleer greats
set of 2000 and 2001. If they can do it anyone can do it....and remember pack prices were 5 bucks also!

For people who want the entire set, uniformity is best.

For people who only want certain cards of certain players from the set, using on-card autos are best.

The latter is the way I assume most people collect, so I'd go with the on-card autos wherever you can.

I would definitely lean towards a mix of on card and sticker autographs.

With the way same sets have been going in the past year or so, just a few on card autographs can (and will) go a long way towards future purchases and fans.

I will also echo what many members have said so far: so long as the sticker is tastefully placed (and preferably clear), sticker autographs can have value and mass appeal.

Slapped on at an angle, silver stickers? No room for that in the hobby.

For you being who you are.... You HAVE to get as many on card autos as possible. Topps/Donruss/UD etc can afford the sticker thing.... since you are still trying to establish yourself in the market... especially since you changed to a new name.... on cards autos are a MUST for as many people/players that you can get.

I agree with this, depending on what kind of set it is. If the group of players is a cohesive unit, like 99 SP Signature or 00 GOTG, or if there is a theme or design separate from any other cards in the product, then I would go with uniformity to promote set collecting. If the mixture of players is all over the place or if the cards are just the base card design with whomever you could get signed, then I would try and get as many on-card autos as possible as they would be less likely to be collected as a set. Of course, 2003 Donruss Champions would apply to the latter and that was a pretty popular autograph set to collect.

Both would be acceptable I guess, though on card is definitey preferred! As mentioned above, sticker autos can be made to look better than some companies have done in the past.

I would have some on card and some stickers. And make some of them SPd, of course.
