Nick Johnson?? Swisher?? LOL

Nick Johnson, even though he wasn't hitting, had an OBP of nearly .400

Swisher????

He has 9 HR right now and is hitting .315.

I'd say he was important last year. 29HR 82 RBi from the bottom of the lineup.

You just remember him from the WS, and that was pitiful.

schmidtfan20 said:
Getting healthy would be nice, but the middle three in the line up need to get hitting

Exactly Yankee fans point. They have had some big injuries, and the 3-4 have not been hitting, yet are still 2.5 games better than the Phillies.

I don't know what middle three you are talking about. Swisher/Gardner have been in the two spot and both are hitting over .300. Cano is mashing, and Granderson just came back and is hitting in the two spot.

In that bandbox of a stadium the Yankees play in my grandmother would have 9 HR's. You can't compare Nick Johnson
and Nick Swisher to J Roll and Polanco!
you act like the phillies ballpark isnt hitter friendly.. look at pat burrell for instance dude mashed there goes to the rays and is demoted.. if you wanna bring up ballparks the phillies are very close to the yankees in terms of a hitters friendly ballpark.. its stuppid piece of crap philly fans like you that make would make me care less if their whole team gets hit by a train.

Don't blame us for knowing when to bail on Pat the Bat, we have been pulling off free agent miracles for years now, our
front office knows who is hot and who is not, unlike some teams who just throw their wallets at whomever had the
hot hand the season before (Abreu anyone?)

I love the anger you bring to these message boards, you must either be a Rays fan or a Dodger fan. Sorry

Kevin
im actually a fan of THE FIRST PLACE ATLANTA BRAVES so dont be sorry im sorry for your 2nd places offense after they got caught cheating.[/quote:3dy81puy]

Maybe people will go to some braves games now, instead of the team playing in a half empty stadium.[/quote:3dy81puy]
rather play in a half full stadium in october than an empty one.

LMAO because Rollins and Polanco are number 1 and number 2 hitters and home runs and rbis are unimportant for those spots....

It's the players that you are comparing that are making you look dumb. Nick Johnson was brought to NY to get on base, which he did well before he was injured.

Don't compare first and second teir players to second an third tier players.

If you wanted a fair comparison on injuries and the calibur of the player, compare...

Granderson to Rollins and Polanco to Posada.

Didn't the Yankees win the World Series last year?

And jeez, who came in second?

Who cares who won what are YOU on the yankees? Am I on the Phillies? NO...so just because we root for different baseball teams does not mean any of us are any better than the other person. This is why I don't understand the angry responses coming from optimism that the phillies play will improve. If the phils lose the world series sure Ill be upset but I have too many other reasons to be happy to get all worked up the way you guys are.
Didn't you JUST say that the Phillies playing really affects your mood? So, instead of being happy, shouldn't you be depressed that your team sucks right now?

RyanHowardCollector6-Seriously dude? Your posts are beyond stupidity and ignorance. And to top it off, you used Batting Average and accolades to "prove" certain players are better than others. And since when are RBIs and HRs unimportant for 1 and 2 hitters? You= ::facepalm::

I never said any player was better or worse than another player. I took one statistic from baseballreference.com. I am tired of hearing angry braves and yankees fans jumping down my throat because I root for the phillies. I have made no negative remarks I have not attacked any individuals so what is with the anger?

You didn't have to say it to infer it. You basically said because of the fact that since 2004 (by the way, Nick Swisher wasn't a full-time starter until 2005), Rollins and Polanco have higher BA and more awards than Nick Swisher and Nick Johnson, they are clearly better.

OH OK... Name the last lead off hitter with 50 hrs and 150 rbis please[/quote:s44zqtcc]
People always mention Jimmy Rollin's "amazing" power numbers for a lead off hitter, but his OBP (something you want from a lead off hitter) is crap.[/quote:s44zqtcc]

I agree he is an unusual choice for a leadoff hitter and his obp is horrible. But for some reason Charlie puts him in that spot and when he leads off the phillies offense explodes behind him he is such an important player for whatever reason.

IMO the phils lineup should be this:

J Roll
Placido Polanco
Chase Utley
Jayson Werth
Ryan Howard
Shane Victorino
Carlos Ruiz
Ibanez

or

Polanco
Victorino
Utley
Werth
Howard
Rollins
Ruiz
Ibanez

This legitimately might be the dumbest thread I've ever seen.

Great idea, but turned south in a hurry because some people can't possibly have their team getting bashed. If they're not playing well, what's the problem? No one here is bashing the Phillies just because they want to bash them. They're bashing the Phillies because they are a first place team who has been playing like little girls lately (with the exception of Halladay). Same thing would happen for every team in the league!

I saw it posted here the other day and could not agree more...something along the lines of: 'Being a homer is great, but there is nothing good about being a blind homer'

Stop taking everything so personally. It's legitimate baseball discussion.

I'll bash the Phillies myself. They are playing terrible. Never mind the lack of offense, 12 errors in last 13 games?

That Perfect Game was great of course.

I can see why there are so many haters, no team has been more dominant in baseball the past 2 years than
the Phils. Congrats to the Braves for their one win.

seriously, why the hate man? Did Brad Lidge not sign your program at a spring training game or something? Your
screaming and name calling makes me thing it was you that was thrown up upon.

its just a message board folks, if it makes you cry like a little girl, then maybe you should head over the beckett.
I like the Phils and I hate the Yanks, big deal. Again congrats to the Braves for that huge win today.

You already used the "go throw up on somebody" line so you're becoming a little derivative, but I do agree with you. Some Phillie's fans need to chiiiill out.

Can't talk smack on the Braves after today's game :| Not sure why you would

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. Are you saying I am mad right now or I hate you? If so, you cannot be more incorrect, which doesn't surprise me based on your recent posts (those were very far from the truth). I just don't understand why you keep brining up the "greater good." We are talking about Baseball, not America nor amiability.

As far as I know, you did pick out those four players.

I mentioned that...

Johnson
Pettitte
Posada
Granderson
Swisher
Rivera

were all hurt, and then it was magically a Swisher/johnson and Rollins/Polanco comparison.

I assure you I did not mention them but I forget who it was though. Now that I think about it why was Swisher brought up isn't he the number 6 or 7 hitter?

And that matters why? :?

But anyway, Swisher has spent time between the second and seventh spot.
