Remember back in the day when people just got over stuff?
Nope when was this? I 47 years young and I can't remember that time :)
Nope times two. Back in the day a Bob Gibson or Don Drysdale is going to drill you right between the numbers.

As for the OP, by "beaned" I hope Zito didn't throw at his head. If he did I'd have a problem with it. Putting one in Fielder's ribs or thigh can at least be debated, throwing at the noggin' can't be defended.

Bob Gibson would throw at you, hitting you, then come to the plate and ask you if you have a problem.

i miss those days

I think Prince said it best:

"They gotta do what they gotta do," Fielder said. "But it's not going to take (the celebration) away. It's chronicled.

"I hit the home run and they gotta hit me. That's what they gotta do."

(Asked if he thought the celebration was worth taking one in the back)

"Hell yeah," Fielder said. "That's something I did with me and my teammates. It has nothing to do with them.

"You're damn right it was worth it."

His first statement really sums it up. Zito denies trying or that he/they speant any extra time thinking about it over the off-season, which might be the dumbest thing anyone has ever tried to pass off as the truth I've ever heard.

IMO, them hitting Prince just makes it look like they WERE stewing about it all winter, and while I agree that the initial celebration wasn't about San Fran, it almost makes it more entertaining that they can't let it go...Zito at least.

With the way baseball is today, Zito has to deny it or he'll get slapped with a long suspension. Also, we won't really ever know if Zito was "ordered" to hit Fielder. Many a manager have "ordered" there pitchers to drill a batter.

Good for Zito.

I had actually forgot that it was the Giants who they were playing. I remember at the time thinking they will hit him in spring training.

It was a classless move by Fielder and the Brewers. I don't care if they were just trying to have fun or not. They showed up the Giants.

It's also showing a team up when they pull their jerseys out immediately after a game.

It's what should have happened. Now just move on and forget about it.

I would be embarrassed if Ryan Howard and the Phillies did that and would not have problem with the opposing team hitting him.

JMO of course.

Great topic by the way,,,, fired me up when I saw the highlight and still does just thinking about it,,,,,,

I'll preface the following by saying its my OWN opinion ,,,

If a manager needs to instruct you to throw at someone as a pitcher you should be shown the exit door,,,,, drilling Fielder between the numbers, in his kidney, or his hands/wrist area should have been a foregone conclusion the minute the celebration concluded,,,,,, I certainly wouldn't want any teammate of mine unwilling to do so ,,,,, if Lincecum & Cain don't plunk him then that Giants team is as good as done before the season even starts,,,,,

The message should be sent until his brain and the Brewers team figured out never to do it again ,,,,,,, even if it meant multiple suspensions & money from every pitcher on their staff,,,, the rub in kind of celebration just does not cut it ,,, totally classless, unprofessional, and against every baseball principle I was ever taught,,,,,

It wouldn't take Bob Watson in the discipline office 5 minutes to decipher why the Giants were continuing to plunk Fielder and crew multiple times,,,,,,,

Once a professional comment emerged from Fielder Jr & crew towards the Giants team ,,,,,, I'd consider laying off,,,,

As a pitcher you better have a mean streak in you or your toast,,,,,, opposing batters will eat your lunch if they know your not going to retaliate,,,,, I broke more than one opposing batters hand/finger/wrist after seeing a celebratory move that either disrespected myself or my teammates,,,,,,

Simple apology and the matter is concluded,,,, " Hey it was great at the time,,,, now that I look back on it its something I wouldn't do again with my teammates ",,,,, that's what I'd want to hear if I were a Giants player,,, anything less is war until Fielder and crew figures out it was a bad move,,,,

My opinion of course,,,
Jeff

They will NEVER apologize or even admit it's wrong. And your arguement can just as easily be reversed; the Brewers are a bunch of ever-backing-down ******* if they admit they were wrong and the celebration was about anything other than thier teammates and had nothing to do with the Giants.

But I respect your opinion and I'm just offering another side to the arguement.

It just looks like he and his team was having fun in that celebration. I've seen people on here say how Pablo Sandoval is awesome because he looks like he's having fun while playing. Sometimes you have to make fun for yourself. I don't see a problem with it, but what do I know.

I can't believe people are/were actually bothered by this celebration, all they were doing was having fun. It's not like they were in the heat of a Playoff race, they were out of it and just having some fun and doing something cool for the fans at home.

It really is not that big of a deal...seriously.

What really bothers me is its the Giants thats pissed off. All of baseball had to put up with Barry Bonds dropping the bat and watching his home runs as he walked slowly to first base.

This made my day. I hope it's not the last time the Giants throw at him. Baseball is not Basketball or Football and these types of choreographed celebrations have no place in the game. The people that think this was "cool" are either Brewers fans or never played baseball at a high level. Baseball is a game of tradition and I appreciate that side of it, Prince Fielder and a lot of people that thought this was cool don't. Good luck vs. the Giants in 2010 Prince.

I appreciate the tradition very much, but tradition doesn't = good.

In this particular case the tradition of not showing up your opponent is a good one to respect. There is plenty of room for celebration in baseball but this was not the way to do it. A perfect example of why this is wrong is that you've never seen it before. Walk-off home runs have been hit for over 100 years and this is the first time this ever happened. You know why? Because everyone else that ever hit a walkoff knew it was disrespectful to not only the opponent but the history of this great game.

I know this response will not be taken kindly by some, but I don't care. If Zito had such a problem with it then he should call him out. By call him out I mean call him out back and go toe to toe. Don't be a beetch and throw a ball at someone knowing your team will step in before he can do any physical damage to you. Do I condone fighting? Yes if both parties agree to the fight. I don't defend Fielders actions either, but he did nothing to physically hurt anyone. Throwing a ball at someone can do major damage.

See, I don't agree. Because it's never been done before doesn't mean it's wrong. I personally think it disrespects the game to retaliate for something like this by throwing at someone. I have no problem with celebrations, provided it is not directed at an opposing player or the team, it isn't offensive or mean spirited, it doesn't seriously delay the game. I don't think what Fielder and his team did broke any of those rules. If you point, stare, yell at the other team, then I could understand plunking someone, but I'm more of the mind to get back at someone by actually beating them.

Zito should be fair game for Bill Neukom to plunk after crapping out since that contract. Seriously, doesn't Barry have some larger issues he should be concerned with in spring training?
