Re: Pujols up to .296 and 85 rbi. Will he get .300, 30, 100?

whatever he gets to, i think he will be on a downward trend over his future years...i. think his best years are behind him...i don't think he will be considered the best player of the season any more.

The closest person in baseball today to Pujols is Miguel Cabrera. And he is still far away! :P

I am not sure what you mean by "closest" to Pujols, but adrian is having a better year, just for one.

I'm not talking 1 year.I'm talking the last 7-8 years.

ok, i agree then...i thought you were responding to my "i don't think pujols will be able to say he had the best season" anymore.

Yea, no doubt, pujols is hands down, the best player over the last 10 years, but i do think he is going to fight an uphill battle moving forward...of course i could be wrong, but that is my opinion.

The only thing funny here are people using RBIs and Batting Average to compare players.

do you have some stats to recommend to us neanderthals that might enhance this debate?

You win Kevin.

You cant compare total stats because Albert played what 4 or more years than Howard? So lets compare totals game Ryan played so far.
Ryan is at 1,008 games and has 283 home runs and 854 RBI's
Albert? at his first 1,091 games spot (80 games above Howard no less) had 282 home runs and 847 RBI's

People need to stop comparing these 2 guys. they are 2 different type of players. Howard was brought up for his power and that is all they brought him up for. And stop comparing stats when Albert has played many more games.
Ok we get it Ryan strikes out a lot. But Howard is doing better in the home run and RBI category and that is the one spot we wanted him to shine in. So in my books he is doing his job.
So is Howard a better player than Pujols No. IS he better at hitting home runs and driving in RBI's? yes. Bottom line. leave it at that.

Howard's OPS and Slugging % have declined all but one year since 2006. Pujols has no such pattern. Howard's performance IS declining, and the contract extension was a bad idea. Those are facts. Time will tell if we are seeing the decline of Pujols...but I am guessing he gets a regrettable contract like all big names do. That being said, I would prefer to overpay Pujols as I think his decline will be slower.

who are you, stone cold? please
i wouldn't slam a st. louis bred player for the sake of slamming him, let that be known.
how is howard doing better in the home run category? pujols leads this year, led last year and the year before.
why do you always seem to preclude howards rookie year when discussing this subject? just asking
if anyone is tired of this debate, click on another thread and be done with it please.

And here is a Cardinals fan failing to mention that Howard had more HR is 2006, 2007, and 2008...and Pujols had 47, Howard 45 in 2009.

Point being, Howard and Pujols are pretty much equal in power. Pujols is clearly a better hitter by a mile.

What are you talking about? . I included all of Howard's MLB career games. ALL! I am talking about total home runs in there career. Howard was the fastest to hit 100 then 150 200 and 250 home runs in X amount of games. He also has most home runs for a 2nd year playing. He also has the most home runs in 1,000 games played. Howard is a monster when it comes to home runs and if you cant see that you are just letting your hate blind you...

I only linked that so illiterate goons can click for themselves and compare the 2011 stats between the 2.
That is the only thing I commented on. Get over it.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Seriously the Pujols/Howard debates are getting stupid, whats next comparing who has more sponsers and using that as whoever is better. Every Pujols thread turns into a Howard thread and every Howard thread turns into a Pujols thread. Pujols is having an "off year and still leads the National league in Homeruns Dan Uggla is 2nd. Pujols was also out for awhile with his wrist. Both players help their teams and that is what they are paid to do. I think if you ask most people who the best player in baseball is the answer is Pujols. Howard is top 10 and possibly even top 5. Let the Pujols/Howard debate die please.

I know im just saying. I don't care what side anyone is on. I like both of them Pujols and Howard. People who are a Cardinals fan like Pujols. Phillies fans like Howard. It is just kind of a stupid debate anymore. The same stats get posted every other day to argue the point. Thats when you realize you are 2 grown men arguing over 2 grown men and that what ever you say is not going to change the others opinion or how the others play the game.

Howard isn't a bad player, just overrated. I would be surprised if he was a top 50 player in the league by most advanced metrics (and no, HR are not advance and neither are RBI...otherwise before this year Adam Dunn would have been considered a top player).

Here's a few stats, and where Howard ranks amongst all hitters this year. Tell me how he isn't overrated:
OPS - 44th (below Corey Hart, Jhonny Peralta, Seth Smith...)
Slugging % - 39th (below Alex Gordon, Alex Avila, Seth Smith...)
wOBA - 53
WAR - 108!!! (This includes defense and baserunning)

Nothing wrong with good healthy debate and the fact that Pujols homers have to go into the on base % and stolen
base stats to prove Howard isn't great, only proves my point.

Howard is not going away, he is one of the greatest power hitters of our time. Sit back, relax and watch the
greats, Pujols included.

It's great to be a baseball fan!

OBP is a very important baseball stat. Learn: http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/offense/obp/

Also, Howard is a St. Louis native and went to MSU, I really like him. If you weren't such a troll I could just watch and appreciate him instead of constantly comparing him to a superior player.
