Very interesting radio interview with Deidra Pujols. If what she is saying is true, wow.

She is a damn whacko!

"I'm just here to share the truth", blah blah blah. She said nothing.

Jesus, the Lord, the truth, blah blah, the statue, blah blah.

She comes off dumb, arrogant and absolutely full of crap.

My favorite, "Albert and I never, made plans to leave this city"...mkay. Except for a few trips to Florida, etc.

Religion aside, sounds like a vast amount of dodging specifics, and seems far more like an over-explanation of guilt than anything else.

Did you listen to the whole thing? I listened to about 10 minutes and she seemed to say the Cards would not offer more than a 5 year deal guaranteed. Other than that did not get much from it. May try to catch some more of it later when I have the time.
For me to sit through anything religious is saying something.

It's brutal, made my ears bleed and I don't buy any of it.

Religious white washing of a business deal is all it was. Nothing more.

I figured there'd be some who'd have a problem with the fact that it was on a Christian radio show, but yes the biggest thing she said was that the Cardinals only offered a five year contract, which would be against nearly every report that was out. It was reported that the Cardinals original offer from last year was nine years and when they heard that the Marlins offered 10, they stepped up their offer as well. Deidra is saying the Cardinals only ever offered five years. If in fact the Cards offered five years and the Marlins wouldn't include a no trade clause, it might look like the Angels had a LOT more leverage than they thought they did and might've overpaid a bit. At the end of the day he will bring in so much revenue for LAA its not even funny. I was at the press conference/pep rally on Saturday and over 1500 signed up for season tickets, everybody was buying the jerseys. This is a huge signing out here and people are going nuts.

Yeah. I stopped that video after a min or two. She's pretty nutty.
I don't blame Pujols for leaving. The Cards had 2-3 yrs to lock Albert up but they dragged their feet and didn't seem that interested in re-signing Pujols. I'm sure if the Cards offer was only 10MM off he might have stayed. But with an offer $50MM higher w/no deferred money it was a no brainer.

I don't know if this has been posted here, but a good interview with Dee Dee and Albert.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities ... s-angels/1

The media is trying to make Albert's wife out as a Yoko Ono type of character in all of this. But I understand their stance on this if this is true about the Cardinals offers and whatnot. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest of the 'DimWitt' family tried to backhandedly low ball Pujols.

How do you guys think Angel fans like hearing Albert and his wife say they didn't ever want to leave St. Louis in the first place?

Albert Pujols' wife, Deidre, says that St. Louis Cardinals fans "have been deceived" by published reports detailing the financial commitment the ballclub was willing to make to its franchise player.

Pujols eventually signed a 10-year, $254 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels, some $44 million above what the Cardinals were willing to offer.

Deidre Pujols says it was more significant than that, and that her husband was stung by the fact they, at least initially, were only willing to guarantee five years of a contract.

As she put it to the "Greg and Sandi Show" on 99.1 FM in St. Louis:

"The offers that people have seen on television, I'm going to tell you what .... had that offer been the one that was given to us, with guarantee, we would have a bird on the bat. ... What I'm saying is it wasn't a guaranteed situation. When you have somebody say, 'We want you to be a Cardinal for life' and only offer you a five-year deal ... it kind of confused us. ... Well, we got over that insult and felt like Albert had given so much of himself to baseball and into the community that he at least deserved the opportunity to have real life-long -- you know, I tell you what -- we didn't want to go through this again. Free agency, it's stressful."

After Pujols became a free agent, the Cardinals' initial offer was five years guaranteed for $130 million, far less than the roughly $198 million they offered Pujols in spring training. Their ultimate 10-year, $210 million offer deferred a significant portion of salary without interest.

It's clear what could have been an amicable parting will, at least initially, turn ugly. Pujols, some have noted, seemed subdued at his welcome news conference/pep rally in Anaheim.

Raising the notion that he was wanted in Anaheim, and that God wanted him in Anaheim, was enough to earn the ire of St. Louis columnist Bernie Miklasz, who had defended Pujols' position earlier.

Not so much anymore.

Neither would any of the other Angels fans. Baseball is quite a bit different in Orange County.

I don't think Albert is going to enjoy playing there.

Have you ever even been to Orange County? Pujols grew up in the DR (as far as I'm aware), so I'm sure he has a soft spot for beaches. Down here he can LIVE on the beach next to Kobe Bryant, Torii Hunter, and many other big time celebrities/athletes. Can't do that in St Louis. Better owner, better environment, all eyes aren't fixated on him all of the time, better weather, etc etc.

He hasn't built up the good will with everyone in LA like he has in St. Louis. If he doesn't perform well there, the fans will boo him, the media will slam him, and he won't like that. Albert Pujols is mentally fragile in many ways in that regard. He doesn't like anyone saying anything bad about him. He gets very angry when people aren't saying how great he is all of the time. All of the things you said may be true, and it may be roses and gum drops for a while, but just wait until his soon-to-happen decline happens. It won't be pretty. If he had stayed in St. Louis, all of that negativity would have been avoided. That's why I say he won't like playing in LA. Not because of the weather, not because of the beach, etc. But because when it goes South for him, which it will, he won't take the fans and media getting fed up with it well at all. And he'll become even more surly to them than he already is, and they'll make him out to be a villain. Something that wouldn't have happen had he stayed in St. Louis.

Angels fans were tolerant of Vlad through his injury riddled 2009, I'd expect the same to be true for Pujols. All of this is assuming he performs up to his career norms through at least the first few years. Without Pujols, Moreno wouldn't have been able to land the huge TV deal ($3 billion/20 year deal compared to the old $500 million/10 year deal) and the benefits sure to be realized from negotiations and marketing in the yet to be discussed new stadium. His contract is paid off in two and a half seasons with the bump in the new TV deal. I sincerely doubt he'll ever be painted as a villain or as a strain on the Angels franchise over the next 8-10 years with all of that.
