Here's my take on it the Angels got Albert to sell seats nothing more if they win more then more seats are sold. This is every team owners goal the world series title is icing on the cake that even brings in even more revenue. The ROI on Pujols will be about 3 years all 250+ mill. The increased revenue he brings to marketing is enormous. Don't think they are too worried about it a 3-5 year window on Pujols in declining prime will still be beneficial to the team only if he declines to Adam Dunn numbers tomorrow will this hurt them but really is an old Pujols DH the last 3-5 years of the contract really going to hurt the team.

The flip side of the revenue for the cards was what increase do they get keeping Pujols there is no new money to gain they have marketed Pujols to death. Their ROI on 200 mill was going to be much longer and that is where they would have gotten into big problems down the road. While the negative ROI from losing Pujols might only be 1-2 years of lost revenue he brings.

It's is sad this is a business but look at as a business and everyone won. I would have preferred Albert stay and be a Card for life just for the novelty of it but realistically this is the what the game has evolved into.

I can see why Cardinals fans are upset, but there's also reason to not be. There's no way he lives up to the money down the road. It's going to be a huge contract that's going to eat at the Angels for the second half of it. I'm not sure why any team would sign a deal for any player for 10 years. You have no idea what might happen in that time frame.

If I owned a team I wouldn't want any deals where a player is pushing 40 at any point.

I can't think of one guy who signed a long term huge deal like this where he was actually better after the deal. Usually it's the declining years that get the big money for players, and teams continually do it anyway.

I for one am sad to see him go but not upset. I wish him luck and thank him for helping bring 2 Titles to StL.

I think this is terrible for baseball and for his collectibility in my opinion. Yea, he has put up phenomenal numbers and will continue to do so, but I think he should have remained a cardinal. Call me traditional, I like the HOF who remain with one team!
But now he will be able to play a longer career having the DH spot available to him later in his contract...

You have to be pretty decrepit to not even be able to play 1B. V-Mart plays first on random days off for Cabrera, and I think V-Mart knees have been surgically removed.

I agree but near the end of that 10 year contract do you see him playing first base full time? I sure don't.

Basically how I feel about it. It sucks yes, but it's good in the fact that the Cardinals aren't going to be chained down by that contract when things go South for Albert. So we can spend that money elsewhere and build our club.

I am saddened more about how this changes things historically. Pujols won't be looked back on as fondly by Cardinals fans as he would have had he stayed. He's no longer that Stan Musial-esque figure that he would have been had he stayed. I am not upset with him in the slightest, but I wouldn't put a statue outside Busch Stadium for him, and if it did happen, I would want it to be YEARS down the line. Same with retiring his number. I really just don't want to see it happen. Not that I dislike him, I just don't think he earned it. You don't leave a team in your prime years and expect to have those accolaids thrown your way.

It just changes what could have been, and I think that's the most difficult aspect.

Where is the loyalty in sports these days? I honestly thought Pujols would be an exception and spend his entire career with the Cardinals but I guess not.

My brother is a huge Cardinals and got rid of his Pujols stuff last night.

Turns out it's a 20 year contract. Clause in the contract calls for Pujols to become a coach/FO adviser after his 10 year playing contract expires. This is even better for the Angels, as it locks him in as a potential hitting coach, recruiting tool, and makes him a true face for the franchise.

Not sure if it's been talked about much, but how much pressure do you think Pujols was under from the Players Association to sign the contract with the Angels?

Interesting Article on CNN about how he treated his fans and Cardinals employees.
Personally I hate that my Rangers will have to face him more often, but I am not that scared
I think the Rangers are going to be the better team over the next 10 years.
I am disappointed that he took the money and ran, would have been nice to see at least one HOF type
player not get busted for Roids or stay with one team in my generation.
Makes you wonder what the real offers the Cardinals put
out there for him wasn't there a rumor he was being offered a share of the franchise?
Hopefully him and CJ turn out to be as good a signing as Torri Hunter and Vernon Wells where for the Angels.

I agree with this article 100%. I am mainly an autograph collector, I am a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and I have tried and tried to get Pujols's signature over the years. Out of the four years I have gone down to Spring Training, I have not seen him pick up a pen once. The only times I have ever gotten his autograph were at a Christian concert and a charity event for his foundation. On top of that, he only gives his full signature when paid $175 or more--he gives his crap signature even at the Spring Training season ticket holder event.

Pujols is by far the worst autograph signer I have ever witnessed. In the regards of fan friendliness, Howard>Pujols.

1. Derek Jeter?
2. Blue Jays?

Very interesting radio interview with Deidra Pujols. If what she is saying is true, wow.

Her voice bugged the hell out of me, so I only listened to a few minutes, but does this some up what she said?

I am mad at God for sending his Angels to us with $254m pulling us away from our beloved city of St. Louis. The people of St. Louis shouldn't be mad at Albert, they should be mad at God.

Am I close?

She is a damn whacko!

"I'm just here to share the truth", blah blah blah. She said nothing.

Jesus, the Lord, the truth, blah blah, the statue, blah blah.

She comes off dumb, arrogant and absolutely full of crap.

My favorite, "Albert and I never, made plans to leave this city"...mkay. Except for a few trips to Florida, etc.

Religion aside, sounds like a vast amount of dodging specifics, and seems far more like an over-explanation of guilt than anything else.

Did you listen to the whole thing? I listened to about 10 minutes and she seemed to say the Cards would not offer more than a 5 year deal guaranteed. Other than that did not get much from it. May try to catch some more of it later when I have the time.
