Lets say your guy gets uber-hot, and his cards start selling for alot more than they would normally...Of course alot of stuff you don't normally see gets listed on ebay, but you have to fight with sheep that are just buying because there name is put out there alot more often.

Do you sell some of your higher end stuff and hope to buy back later when prices cool down?

or do you

Buy some of the stuff that has popped up on ebay thinking you may not see it again...even though your going to pay alot more than you wanted to?

I'd probably sell the lower end stuff that has risen in price. Then get the rare stuff that pops up now with the money off the non-rare cards I sold. Then buy those back later.

This hasn't happened with Granderson yet. It might soon though if he keeps it up.

After Zambrano's no hitter, I could have sold some stuff, but I hate having to give up any Zambrano card even if I have duplicates because what card am I really going to buy that I will like more than that card I sold

my guy has been doing very poor this year, but last season during the afl he was very hot. his stuff was very hot then and i couldnt afford most. alot of guys still try to sell his stuff crazy high now, simply because of then.

i consider my self a superior collector of wes hodes. i cant very well see my self getting rid of anything period. id rather move everything else i own to get his stuff. but thats just me

I buy the 6 or 7 cards that I've never seen, but hopefully pop up, and sell some of my dups of his BC Gold and Sterling Black to pay for the purchases.

I'm not holding my breath that a Twins middle reliever will ever have a hot period though.

Of course the player I am talking about here is Carlos Pena....I am hoping (for my wallet) that he doesn't win the HR crown and keep this up all year, but at the same time I am loving this...Its just a hard decision whether or not to buy or sell and rebuy later.

I sold a bunch of Hamilton stuff last year when he was red hot. I like collecting Hamilton, and I probably gave up some cards I will never see again, but there's no way I could turn down the chance to triple my money with no work. I bought a new computer, a Wii and it was basically all my summer spending money.

I would sell all my lowend cards and high PR cards then pick them back up in <6 months when the hype has cooled off. Then pick up 1-5 cards that I would never otherwise see even if it means paying a bit of a premium

Tough one. I buy doubles (or more) of the really tough stuff so when things spike... I sell my extras.

I guess...I have almost a dozen of his 99 BC refractors that I could probably come off of, and not feel any pain.

i think its different for me. i collect wes hodges and his 07 bc base auto goes for like 10-15 normally. i have 112 of them and would grab up more if i could. i have many duplicates of the whole rainbow inlcuding 3 reds. i cant honestly say i would get rid of any of them. even if his super popped up, i couldnt see myself moveing his stuff to get it. i would have to move everything else i could possibly move first. i think every player collector is different in that, he collects his player to his own standards. some player collectors wont touch duplicates period, some want every single card of their player possible

I hoard Thomas items...I've never sold a Thomas card that I didn't have multiples of my multiples...I have given a few away that I didn't have duplicates of, but those were special circumstances when it was the right thing to do.

i wouldn't sell any of my duplicate BW cards just so that i could get cards that i hadn't ever seen or seen show up in awhile. i'm a hoarder of BW cards when i can be. i've given away 4 cards that i have multiples of that i feel i'll need to replace at some point. oddly enough though, i'll always view those 4 cards as missing even if i do replace them.

I buy whatever I need to help fill in gaps even if it is 'over-priced'. If I haven't seen the card before then it must be pretty rare  so yea, I'll pay what I need to get it in my collection.

As for selling, only if I have duplicates.

Move em for anything you may have trouble finding later.

i hold everything cuz it would be too hard (time consuming and money wise) to rebuild if i ever wanted to again.

and yes the "hype" would piss me off but i would have to jump in especially if it is a sweet card that i know is hard to come by.

I have yet to sell anything aside from SPX duplicates. I did well on those, and they all had refractor lines which I hate. The time to sell was late 2006 for him. If he gets traded and goes on a tear I may sell more SPX duplicates. The only way, at this point in time, would I sell anything is if I get a huge offer on the entire collection.

I appreciate all the responses...I am kinda torn as to what to do because I am a collector as well as a hoarder...Guess I will come off some of my dupes
