What amazes me is those M's teams he was on with Griffey, ARod, Edgar, Buhner, and company and that those teams never won it all.

In all likelihood, we'll never see another pitcher with the prolific K statistics that Randy Johnson put up over his career.
As many of you know, he has been my favorite for decades, and when I couldn't make it to Cooperstown 4 years ago, I figured I would hold out until Johnson's induction day.
The dude was a flat-out strikeout king.![]()
If Lincecum keeps it up he may have similar (not saying better/overmatching) K statistics as Johnson.
Yes, his stats are nasty, one of the greatest/most dominating pitcher ever.200lbhockeyplayer said:"Similar" isn't really all that similar.darocker80 said:This is true, they do have a long way. People have a really hard time grasping how huge 10.6 K per 9 innings is, and that was his entire 22 year career. Lincecum hasn't reached that average in a single season yet. And Nolan Ryan only reached it twice during his 27 year career. It's truly an insane accomplishment.
In 2001, Johnson was averaging 1.5 Ks every inning for the season. Just take a moment and think about that. We think a pitcher had an amazing night if they have 13 strikeouts in a game...he averaged 13.4 every 9 innings for a season. That is just sick.

hehe, at least i didn't bring it up.markakis8 said:I just somehow knew there was going to be a comparison with Lincecum involved when I clicked on this thread. Especially seeing darocker post :benson:
If Lincecum ever touches 300 K's in a season, I will be shocked. In fact, I believe he's already achieved his career high.
No one, especially a LHP, will ever dominate like RJ. He was a true "freak"

I'm hoping mullet will no be engraved into the plaque, but instead actual synthetic locks of self-moistening hair for the masses to caress.MaineMule said:Helluva of a career......he really evolved into a "pitcher" from the hard "thrower" that he was early in his career, kind of like Koufax. Must have been scary as all get-up facing him. His HOF bust will have to have a mullet, right?

I'm certainly not saying Lincecum is anywhere near Johnson, but he has accomplished MUCH more than Johnson did at the same point in their careers. Two Cy Young Awards and 10.2 Ks per 9 innings at age 25 is FAAAR better than Johnson. Johnson was 10-13 with 8 Ks per 9 innings at age 25.
Awesome. :lol:200lbhockeyplayer said:I'm hoping mullet will no be engraved into the plaque, but instead actual synthetic locks of self-moistening hair for the masses to caress.
Almost like an interactive plaque.
