As a Rangers fan, I don't know what to think.
It's a $500,000 deal with $1 mil. in possible incentives, so it could be a steal for the Rangers if Jones can become anywhere near what he was before he went to LA.
Here's the story, which says he turned down the Yankees.

It also comes with an out clause I believe that allows AJ to opt out after March 20th or something like that.

$500,000 is a STEAL. If I was a Rangers fan Id be excited about that deal. You pay him next to nothing and he is out to prove he can still play. He will have to EARN his spot in the lineup and not just have it handed to him. And if he plays like last year.... team is only out 500K.

Win - Win situation for the Rangers.

Really? So if he gets off to a great start in Spring Training he can opt out and sign for more? Weird.

I agree. Heck, for 500k I'll sign him to follow me around and carry my groceries, lol!

Somehow I knew this was coming. The Rangers will take on anyone with any kind of problems (Rocker, Bradley) and once in a while it works out (Hamilton). The reports I saw on Jones during Winter ball sounded horrid but Texas is a nice place to live and hit. Any kind of production and this is a good deal. Anything like his production from 3-4 years ago and it's the steal of this century.

Andruw in CF allows Hamliton to switch to RF
That is something Nolan Ryan wanted to save on Josh h's body

They have enough bats in line-up that a subpar Jones offense = OK

I've read that numerous places, and it just doesn't make any sense to me. Assuming the Andruw that shows up is close to the bulky, overweight version of 07-08, I can't see him being able to play anything above an average center field.

Hopefully he can make a comeback in Texas. As a Jones fan this is a sad day. I can't believe noone would take a chance on him as a starter? His defense alone would be worth the risk. If he fails miserably like he did last year, send him to the bench and replace/platoon him. He signed for $500,000, noone was willing to go 1 million or 1.5 million to take a chance?

The economy seems to be making people make some serious choices when it comes to signing. Manny Ramirez, who is still very productive, and the iconic Ken Griffey Jr, who really isn't, are still jobless. As are numerous other future HOFers and stars who still have some gas in the tank.

As payrolls are tightening, especially on future commitments, teams are being a lot choosier about who they make offers to. Even a million dollars or two on a rehab project who might not be good in the clubhouse might seem like too much.
