Thanks. I bet after they add in revenue sharing, the percentage the Yankees spend on players is close to the others.

Just found this out:

According to Kurt Badenhausen over at Forbes, revenue figures INCLUDE revenue-sharing -- that is to say the Yankee revenue numbers are calculated AFTER the $100-plus million they give to revenue-sharing.

Oh and since the chart did not have this figure:
Percentage of Revenue Spent on Payroll
• League average: 46.6%
• New York Yankees: 46.9%

It boils down to the fact that the Yankees are not spending an out of control amount on their payroll, they are in fact in line with most of the league.

(Again some exceptions such as the Padres, Marlins, etc)

Gotcha, thanks for the info. I wonder if the majority of that money has to go to debt financing and can't be spent on players. Since their debt ratio is 89%

Congrats to the Rangers. The Yanks got beat fair and square. There is no other way to put it. At least we got further than Boston and that is all I care about as a Yankee fan. The Yanks do have the highest payroll, but money does not win championships. I just hope my Yankees can net Cliff Lee this off season! It is going to be fun with all the big names on the market.
Spoken like a true Yankees fan - if we can just get all of the best players we'll win. Its getting further and further from 1996-2000 and one in the last 10 years is not better than the Red Sox.

I'd like to understand what is so important with these "last 10 years"?? Because they have the same amount over the last 11, and like it was pointed out, they have more over the last 3...

That said, it is not with characters like what they displayed in this series that they'll win more; the rotation also needs to be fixed ASAP by getting rid of Vazquez and AJ. Replace them with Lee and get a kid in as 5th; and this time don't mess him up like Joba...

Because the recent past is more important than a much earlier time. 1996-2000 was a great stretch, but is becoming more and more history like 1927 than something that happened only a few years ago. They have more in the past 3, but 1/2 as many as the past 6. As time goes by 1996-2000 is looking more like a fluke than something they are going to keep repeating. Thats all.

First off a Cliff Lee fan that would rather him go to the Yanks than stay in Texas... Second The Sox won in 2007 so they have the same WS Championships as the Yankees in 3(4 too little sleep) years - not less. I would be happier with 2 in the last 10 and a younger team, than 1 in the last 10 and an ageing team.

..cause the difference between 29.9 and 29.1 is huge.

What would you rather have witnessed during your lifespan? two or five World Series Rings so far? (If you under 30 that is, if you are 33 or older you have seen at least 7.)

Sounds a little bitter to me.

Let it go man. I recognize what's going on here, because I've done it before. He's scraping the very bottom of the barrel for reasons that his team is better, because he knows his team isn't better.

1996-2000 is history like 1927 is. But let's not look at the too recent future, say... the last 2 years. That's too recent. Let's just look at the years 2004-2007. See? Told ya' the Red Sox are a better team.

Go Indians! :) I'm pretty happy with the results, CC went 3-0.

Red Sox fans coming in trying to make a case that the Sox are better

A Yankees fan brought up the Sox originally. Which in itself was pointless. The Yankees had a good year, just not good enough to win a championship. It's baseball, any team can beat any team in a playoff. That's why the Regular Season doesn't decide the World Champions. It's also why opening up the playoffs to more teams makes the playoffs more valuable. For decades it was just the two top Regular Season teams would play for a title, and that really comes down to a coin flip in most cases.

The Rangers played amazing, but at the same time the Yankees had issues this series, I believe MLB Network said the Yankees had both a top 5 highest ERA and were in the top 5 lowest ever batting average in a 7 game ALCS. That is not something that can be blamed on a manager.
