"Rare" 90s inserts

There was a basic Donruss Elite Set (foil card) and then Donruss did a set called Collections which included Donruss, Elite, Preferred, and Leaf.

They then did a "Prized Collection" that was "refractor-like"

I remember opening a box in 98 and pulling the Gwynn Preferred Prized Collection. Ended up trading it to my college Econ professor.

So can you tell from the scan if the one i have is the
"prized collection" or the regular collection?
I am leaning towards the "prized" because it just seems really good quality...is there any markings or any way I could tell, cause one is 1.50 and the other 15.00?

Just making sure you knew which number to look at since there are two on back and people often get them confused. There is the real number then there is the "collections" number. These scans really show the difference between the two (collections and prized collections):

In the second scan notice the PC above the 413 (bottom left). That is what toc is talking about!

thanks for the info...i was looking in the wrong place, but unfortunately it's still the 1.50 card (it's ok, i think it was only .10

And as much as i liked this card, now I know that i really want the the Prized one...i can't imagine the card being even nicer than this one ...makes me think they forgot to put the pc on this card, it is so nice...(grin)...

This was the first baseball set to feature them.

That and 1997 Upper Deck Game Jerseys.

The '97 UD cards were just plain jerseys. The '97 Leaf Thomas was the FIRST to use patches. Taken from FrankThomasCollection.com :

• One of the first memorabilia cards issued by a major manufacturer.
• First to use the entire jersey - including the patch, numbers, and nameplate.
• First to include the "outside of the bat" showing the hit marks and even the imprinted barrel type.
• First to use the sweatband.

They are not all so cheap.I have paid up to $61.00 for a Bags.Most go for less but I guess the fella I was bidding against really still needed this for his collection and that's why it went so high.

mcgwires are the same. I got lucky only once and got it for only $23. Most of the Mac's go for about $80. They peak at about $120 (only once).

So for non variant collectors, there are 600 gold cards and they only want 1 or 2 (A & B)

For the rest of us, there are 600 gold cards and we need 60 (30 A and 30 B)
