BG hinted in a post that they would be doing a Razor Chrome in '09, since patent protection for the technology ends on Dec. 31st. Will Topps Bowman Chrome products have significant competition, being as Chrome is King?

Suggestion Razor: emboss the cards, i think that's what its called.

refractors /500
green refractors /300
blue refractors /150
gold refractors /50
red refractors /5
razorfractor /1

Additionally bring back the colored background w/ colored border.

Thoughts guys?

So, essentially mimic BC entirely?

Razor will never overtake Bowman Chrome in any way shape or form... they are two completely different types of sets. Bowman Chrome is MLB licensed and Razor isn't... they can't be compared.

imitation is the greatest form of flaterry, only Razor has the exclusives Topps can only dream of. Bowman Chrome w/o the big name prospects will not be as appealling to prospectors as Razor w/ them.

I cant say they will be bigger than BC when their blueprint is exactly the same.

Imitation is the greatest form of plagiarism.

Why not just change there name from RAZOR to 'Roman' as well, this way atop of stealing all Bowmans ideas and technology(via your ideas), they can put 'Roman' on there packs and box's but make the 'R' in Roman resemble a 'B' so as to trick the public and steal Bowmans buisness there as well...

Here's a good idea!

Why not try something origonal and refreshing? build on what works, instead of just regurgitating it..

They have NEVER had the competition for prospects thar they have now w/razor around. The same thing was said about non-MLB liscensed DEEE. Razor will have the autos that Topps won't. In fact Topps won't even have cards of them. Remember A-rod siyuation. No Topps contract/card until way down the line.

What I meant was, Bowman Chrome will always be here, and will always be more popular. It is great that Razor is pushing them and taking some of their business by signing exclusives, but they will never actually "take over" as the next Bowman Chrome... unless they can secure a MLB license.

Card companies and businesses in general are in the market to make money. Models that have already been proven are used by different companies. If you use generic medicine you are guilty of supporting "borrowed" research of other companies as well. I purchase by product potential, players in release and if Topps does not have the prospects, my money will go elsewhere. Bowman has its supporters, but I have my doubts about it being the best prospect product in the future. jmo as have been yours.

I really hope they don't copy chrome. Not that chrome is bad, because chrome is the best prospect product on the market, but I think they can improve THEIR product by doing things different than chrome. Remember, razor base cards have little value, all the value is in the autographs.

I see your point and you can bet MLB IS WATCHING. it's about money and who knows, Razor might have an MLB Logo some day, but that will increase the cost of products as well. With that being said, a liscensed Razor would have topps shaking in their boots, considering the exclusives they have.

I'm cool with Razor using existing, proven concepts and methods, but I'm really hoping they can come up with something new that will blow everyone away.

Selling a set for 42 bucks a pop for me doesn't seem like they have no value

Chrome Base set for me of 65% more cards only got 30.00

You keep repeating this, and I think you're off base (pun intended). One of the things I was most disappointed in was the small percentage of the base set I was able to build in the one box I've opened so far. I saw that Dano wasn't even able to build the 100 card set out of three boxes. They may not have the value of the autographs, but they are important to collectors (read collectors, not prospectors).
