As alerted to be by Mr. Weisman....

http://www.liderendeportes.com/Noticias ... 6&twit=yes

Waiting for a translation, and the financial details before I give my two thumbs down.

(EDIT) - I'm already giving my two thumbs down. I wanted an Everett/Lowrie platoon.

I'm further thinking Lowrie will now be a piece in a deal with Toronto for Halladay.

(EDIT) - 10:45 PM... F THIS. 3 year deal. The SI Cover Curse of Nomar continues, and Scutaro hasn't even set foot in Boston. The third year BETTER be a vesting club option with a micro buyout.

10:47 - Alright, now Price is saying 2 years. 2 years would make me feel SLIGHTLY better.

I also think that in giving up a first rounder, this just furthers my beliefs that the Sox now would prefer Holliday, over Bay.

Mule - It's also been twittered in English by a few of the beat writers who originally picked up on this, this afternoon.

This had better not be for big money or for more than two years.

Its a 1st rounder that COULD end up as an everyday player. The sox are gambling on Scutaro who has proven himself in the bigs vs gambling on a HS or college kid who won't be a starter for at least 3 years.

I would guess its a 2 year deal, but if its three i have to believe the sox assume they will trade him before year 3 or split time with Iglesias.

Ill take my chances on the draft pick over the guys Theo has been bringing in. Management should literally lock him out of any room with talks of a shortstop. Just keep the guy in the dark completely. ::facepalm::

They were put in a position after declining the option on Gonzalez where there was not a legitimate long term solution available. This team wants to contend every year. I have to believe after the last two flops at SS for Theo that it was discussed with the higher powers.

And i think this deal could mean something bigger for the Redsox in terms of Halladay. Toronto has Alex Gonzalez for one year but has been looking for a longer term solution. The Redsox now have the ability to move either Lowrie or even Kelly in a package for Halladay

I really, really hope that report isn't true. Here is the latest from Rotoworld:

Sources close to Marco Scutaro told Venezuela-based Lider that the free agent has agreed to terms with the Red Sox.
Be very, very skeptical for now. The Red Sox and Scutaro are almost certainly talking, but none of the multitude of Red Sox sources have reported that a deal is done or close or even that money has been discussed.

All I can find from local sites/stations is that Scutaro worked out for the Sox earlier in the week.

The Red Sox just need to get younger. Lowell is becoming useless. Still a very good player but the injuries are too much for him. Varitek is back even if just as the backup. JD Drew is a mystery and another year older. Now Scutaro, whos what, 35? ugh.

How soon everyone forgets that the sox won a WS title with Lugo as their starting SS. Gimme one title during the Marco Scutaro era and I'll be happy :D

And this deal sets them up to get younger at the SS position without having to go acquire a long term solution. Iglesias and maybe even Kelly should be ready by the 2011/2012 season(s)

And who the heck is Condelio... I must say, I haven't ever heard Iglesias with that nickname. Personal nickname?

Re: Red Sox sign Marco Scutaro (Financial Deals Not Disclosed)

Did anyone watch Scutaro play last year?

I didn't want the Jays to give him market value for last year's season, because we can't afford it. The Red Sox can.

This year's SS class is awful.
Scutaro only swings at strikes. Almost exclusively.

We;re talkaling about a guy who posted a BB:K greater than 1 and only swung at 12% of balls outside the zone, making contact w/ 85 percent of 'em.

He also plays pretty decent short stop.

I don't think he'll be quite as good this coming year, but he's an AMAZING piece of the puzzle for a contender.
