Every year I get my hopes up. Same result since 1991. I know its only one game but you can see what a real team looks like in the Cardinals.

You can always check out Cincy's minor league hockey team, they are the only professional team in Cincinnati that ever seem to make a run for the championship.

I share your despair, it would be nice to have a good baseball team but you definitely can't complain about the weather today which made it the loss a little easier to take.

Its funny you posted this. I watched the game earlier and was like wow the Reds have a decent team and have a lot of potential.

The Reds are going to be fine. Anything they can do, in terms of success, this year-will be a bonus. They are looking like a bust out team in 2011 to me-with a rotation of Cueto, Volquez, Chapman, Leake, and Homer Bailey. That is a pretty nice rotation, with nice upside. Add to it the likes of Votto, Bruce, Brandon Phillips, and you have a nice core of talent. I could see them surprising some people this year, but I really expect them to compete in 2011.

What has Bruce done? Bat 219. Votto has yet to complete a full season with injuries. Yes, rotation looks good on paper but two of the pitchers have had injuries and the other three are still unproven and developing. With the Reds its always next year. I was always next year with Kearns and Dunn. Didnt happen.

Not sure what you were waiting on from Dunn...was 40 HR not good enough?

Bruce- 22HR in 101 games. Avg out to 35 over a full season.
Votto- 5th in the league in batting, missed games due to depression and vertigo. I think labeling him injury prone is a bit of a stretch.

As you can see I kinda disagree.

1B-Votto top 5 player at position
2B-Phillips the guy everyone forgets maybe the most complete 2B
ss- Cabrera veteran leader that hits well
3B- Rolen proven vet
OF- question mark of the team
Pitching- I'm banking on Volquez being back and ready in August.
C- Hernandez decent

Reds could be in alot worse shape. Take a look at that 1990 roster. There wasn't a Pujols on there either. Maybe Joe Oliver.

Yep, something there's a bit of a stretch, all right.

Im not Reds fan, but Votto posted the 5th highest OPS in the entire league last year and he is an above average defender. It might be premature to call him a top 5 player at 1B, but he definitely is close. As far as the Bruce haters go, HE JUST TURNED 23! You might want to take a close look at his 2nd half splits last year: .326/.426/.652/1.078. He had a BABIP of .201 last year in the 1st half. .201!!! The league average tends to hover around .300. Just a little teaser, his #1 age comp according to baseball reference is Barry Bonds.
