Interestingly, I bought either a 6 box or 12 box case of 2007 Bowman Chrome from a freight reclaimer for $12 a box on Ebay... the case was crunched on one corner but boxes inside were not damaged. It was a great and inexpensive break... and one box had a refractor in every pack, the best one being a Betances Gold Refractor auto.

Not stolen stuff, just "Damaged".

Also this isn't the first time this has happened.
I'm sure some of you know of other cases where autograph cards never got back to the company for packs, but ended up showing up on ebay.
I recall someone in 97 Donruss signature got cards stolen out of their car.
I think 97-98 Skybox autographics had one or two rookies I think it was Tim Thomas was one and someone from 1997 UD Legends football. Where a few cards showed up signed on ebay with UD coa on the back, but were never returned for pack out or redemptions.

This was the the troubled (now deceased) former Steeler HOF center Mike Webster. He never returned the signed cards to UD but a fairly significant quantity of them made their way onto the secondary market (I have one in my near-set). It's believed his agent was selling them directly to dealers in quantity.

Yep, great info on Mike Webster card. Wasn't Russ Francis another one that never got put into packs, but started showing up like the Webster and sold for big $.

Any know who did get the Tosoni lots?

Insane. Even if this is the player's fault, it gives Topps another black eye.

And in Topps' mind, is yet another reason to go sticker autos.

How would that be any better? Someone could just get a bunch of stickers. Which could lead to a whole different kind of issue.

There are reported to have been a handful of Francises out there but nowhere in the quantities of the Websters. I've never personally seen one and have only heard of one or two being out there. I think someone on the old Beckett board claimed to have one but I don't ever recall them producing a scan.

That's already happening. Stickers are being pulled off of cards, autos rubbed off, and more expensive autos forged on there.

If you use sticker autos o ncards that shouldn't have autos, they'll clearly arise as fake cards.

Topps bought all the cards back.

My friend just got her Tosoni redemption in the mail yesterday...
