Thanks guys

Picked up a 1982 Gold Set, too bad it was the All-Star set.

I thought of one more, the grand daddy of 'em all. It wasn't easy to find a pic of, since most of the nicer versions of the card are missing the number in the middle (thankfully). One look at this card and I was... disgusted. Yes, I think that's the right word. I love numbers, and this disturbed my strange little world.

Dont you love the 2006 Topps Sterling card # RHSB12 which shows 1987 as one of the years Rickey led in SB.
Spend all that money making a great set of cards and in typical Topps fashion they had to screw something up.
I know its a bit off subject but it really bugs me, and Yes I have passed my feeling along to Topps on more than one occasion

How about a 2004 card picturing him as a dodger(25) with a 24 inscription? And the jersey is showing on the front of the card!

I have to confess that I never picked up on that before. In fact... are you sure Rickey didn't lead in 1987? It's just hard to imagine...

Just checked it out... damn you Harold Reynolds!!!! Took it with just 60.

In his prime, Henderson had a virtual monopoly on the stolen base title in the American League. Between 1980 and 1991, he led the league in steals every season except 1987, when he missed part of the season due to a nagging hamstring injury, allowing Mariners second baseman Harold Reynolds to win the title.

Reynolds tells the story of getting an impish phone call from Henderson after the season:
"The phone rings. 'Henderson here.' I say, 'Hey, what's going on, Rickey?' I think he's calling to congratulate me, but he goes, 'Sixty stolen bases? You ought to be ashamed. Rickey would have 60 at the break.' And then click, he hung up."

Classic!

I was just going to post this. When Rickey was inducted, HR was on MLBN talking about this with Rickey. Notice that when RH didn't lead the league HR did?

Anybody coming to the All-Star Game in Kansas City this year? I am really hoping to score some "All Star Sunday" night tickets, so I can hopefully see the Taco Bell Old Timers/Celebrity Softball game. I really could careless about anything else and am assuming that Rickey will make an appearance like he has the last few years in that event. Knowing my luck though, he'll take this year off! Should be a blast though, with week long festivities all over the city the week of the game.

I do not know and thats why I'm asking, where did you hear/see #10?
Someone else asked me and I hate the fact that I do not know,

I don't know for sure either, I am just assuming he took what he had in Modesto over to the Mexican leagues.

After searching the Modesto Bee archives for a while, I still couldn't find anything (but did see a lot of "Ricky" mentions - pretty cool):

I have tasked the current Modesto Bee Sports staff to see if they can find us the answer officially....we'll see what they say! :)

Kent --

Off the top of my head I don't remember, and I was an office boy for that 1977 team, which means I had to type up the roster stencil prior to each game. But I'm sure we have a photo or two around that might show the back of Rickey's Modesto uniform. The bobbleheads released by the minor league team in the last 10 years all show the number 24, but I'm guessing it's because they didn't know, either. Give me a little time and I'll get back to you.

I would love to have the Modesto Bee find some pictures in the archives to show the jersey #! Fingers-crossed.
