Alright guys, you are seeing it too. There is way too much money being thrown around for Rickey cards, in a terrible economy no less. It has been driving me nuts. NUTS! There is the collector side of me that wants to keep everything I have. As Daffy Duck once said..."Mine! Mine! Mine! Alllllllll MINE!" I have it, so why would I want anyone else to have it? But if someone else does have it, I'd at least want it to be a fellow non-jerky Rickey collector who would appreciate & enjoy it....right? Well, the logical, pragmatic business side of me says "How in the world are you at least NOT going to sell some of these dopy pieces of cardboard?" Within a 10 year or less timespan, you could be seeing financial returns on what you paid up to 500% or more! Show me ANY investment vehicle anywhere that is going to give you that kind of return? If you don't sell then you have a very nice collection of cardboard and plastic (holding them), but you will die a fool. (OK, that's obviously harsh, but for some reason I'm picturing a 1950's movie dialogue in my head).

So, much to my chagrin, I think I've hit my tipping point. I think I will be selling my 1of1s and other hard-to-find items. I know many of you will groan, and possibly hate me for it, which I fully understand. My collector brain has been beating up my investor brain for years. Years. Well, my investor brain can't take it anymore and is lashing out.

I will likely start doing this in August, after my family vacation to Yellowstone. Maybe Yogi Bear (Yogi Bearra?) will slap my investor brain around a little bit and put collector brain back in charge. But, as of now, I'm 83% convinced that I'm going to be selling some of my gems. I'll offer them to you guys first, on this board. I'll give prices, less than what I'm going to post on ebay. But, as you can imagine, I'm going to start high. Again, sorry to do this but I have to do it. I hope you understand. :-(

Well said, and I agree - but I'm at 85% convinced myself.

I'm at 102%, and have been for a while. Now if I could just find the time to list anything on ebay. Plus my cards are really really buried these days. Sniffle.

I might have to get a box together and send it off to Boomo to sell for me. What do you guys think a nice 1/1 on card recollection collection auto would get these days?

More for you to buy! :)

I would gladly buy if I had some extra cash. Should have more coming in, but just buying house and new whip for the wife made cash tight right now. Maybe we could work something out?

Well I would, of course, hold on to my 24 collection. But manoman, I am really poor. PLUS, these prices just don't seem sustainable. There have been other times when this has happened, two crazy people go crazy over Rickey cards and then go broke or lose interest. Anybody remember jwolfe? He did that, he said he was starting a collection for his kid and then his kid lost interest so he sold all the cards. I have some funny stuff in my Rickey spreadsheet like this: 2005 Donruss Classics Classic Combos Signature Jersey w/B.Jackson/1 48 e$305-149.95(haha jwolfe) So he bought it for $305, and a while later sold it for less than half of that. I think this little bubble will burst and we might be able to buy our cards back (if desired) for half the cost or so. Although I could be wrong. It's just that, I feel so poor, and everybody I know is feeling really poor right now (except for my brother, haha) so it's just hard to imagine that these pieces of cardboard will keep selling for so incredibly much!

For those of us who haven't been paying attention, what's really hot right now? GU #/25ish? :D Autos? Patches? Everything??

See there is an A&G Rickey rip card on the bay now. I'm confused. Are all the possible cards inside Rickey? Is there a way to rip them that won't completely destroy the card?

From what I understand of rip cards, the chances that the card inside will be a Rickey card are 0%-0.24%. Not much chance at all. You can remove the card without "completely destroying" the card, but there is no way to get it out without causing significant damage to the card. Here are some examples I found...

Anyone selling. I would like to buy (bail) you out. Hate to see everyone wanting to sell.

I will possibly sell some of my high end. Let me know what you are looking for. Ive put some Sterling on eBay recently. I want to let y'all know that I won't give it away though since I don't really have to sell. I have some other hobbies I want to fund.

So once you rip those cards to reveal whatever is inside, what does that do to the value of the ripped original card?

That all depends on the player and the #'ing. I mean, if it's Griffey Jr, and it's #/5, you still have a valuable item. If you have Jason Jennings, and it's #/150, it's worthless. Sadly the unripped Jennings #/150 is very expensive, because people are buying the card inside... CC had one #/75 and it never sold for less than $50. The ripped ones were a few dollars. I never got one.

There was no Jennings #/150, I just didn't want to insult anybody's player by pulling out the worst player I could think of.
