Went to a card show today and the seller J-MAN who has that 2001 signature series auto was at that show. He had the other version of that card that has been on Ebay, and this one was auto'd too, with the 1990 MVP inscription. I looked at the card real well, and it did look pretty good. But I got to wondering, when did Rickey sign a deal with Donruss to start doing autos? Why have we seen the non-stickered version of these cards recently and now we have this guy with an inscribed auto on each version? He says he picked them up in Chicago, so I dunno......

It is strange. That card looks cool, but is it too good to be true? If Rickey actually did sign it, but it was not a pack-in, I would still get it. If it is just a forgery, then obviously no. I'm going with too good to be true.

Also, I miss card shows. Haven't been to one in years. Used to be great fun and meet other collectors of single players and talk about our collections. Miss that too.

I know the one I looked at the auto was Rickey all the way. But he wanted 250 for it, and that I couldn't do.

The autos look good to me, but the cards were signed at a show or something. There have been a few guys selling the same backdoored cards and none have been autographed.

This is something I've always believed to be true, for one reason or another.

Rickey's first certified pack pullable auto... 2002 Donruss Elite Throwback Threads Autographs EX 28 #/100

Except it was a redemption, so maybe it wasn't so pack pullable.

I thought that in 2001 Donruss announced to the world that they would be including Rickey in these products, like Donruss Signature, but it fell through.... never happened.

That's why it was so amazing that all these years later, that knight guy on ebay started coming up with all of these unsigned auto cards that were supposed to be released but never were. And now, after ALL of these years, the signed version shows up?

AMAZING!!!

Way too good to be true. But then again.... it's a sticker auto, right? I don't know how you could pull that off... getting Rickey to sign one of those unsigned inserts is one thing, but where does the sticker come from? I don't get it!

I do really really want to own one, but $250? Whew! The one on ebay is at $158 and it's already out of my reach....

Ryan, I have the 2 cards unsigned, and the part where he signed on the Ebay card, is a large foil section of the card. It is not a sticker. All you would have to do is bring them to a show/signing and have him sign them.

Well that explains that! Kind of a neat look into the history of auto cards? It seems pretty stupid though, built in foil. I thought the stickers were invented so the athletes didn't have to get the actual cards to sign...

So yeah, now I'm 99.999% sure that these were signed recently, and never pack pulled. Pretty hot inscriptions though, wish they were mine. :)

I threw some stuff up on ebay just to see if I can get any offers. I might try to throw one more batch up today, I think it's the last day of that sale...

Nice stuff to just "throw up". Told my wife I hate you 'cuz you put all the hot stuff up at one time, and I can't afford to get them all at once! I may have to take out a personal loan for all of these sweet cards!

What a coincidence! I wasn't able throw up any more (auctions) last night, I did the one to see if the special was still going, and it was! And then my friends came over with this great idea, let's go to this certain bar that has the MLB package so we could see CC win #20.

Then the first inning happened. He allowed 3 runs before recording an out. :| So my good friend Sparky orders up 3 shots! I wouldn't take all 3 of them  and he let me out of it, saying that I had to take a shot for any runs allowed later. I got pretty drunk. But it was free! It got scary in the 7th when they scored a run and had two on with 1 out, but luckily we escaped that one shot.

So yeah, sorry that I didn't work on baseball cards much yesterday.

It would have been nice to see CC get his 20th, but he should pick it up befor the end of the year! I do have to agree that the stuff you "threw up," was pretty crazy! All definitely way beyond my means, but fun to look at nonetheless :)

I think its funny how all of those posts about "throwing up" and "doing shots to runs scored against CC" collided into the same mind meld. Just don't go home after the free shots and start "throwing up" stuff on ebay cuz you might end up...well, you know. I don't want to see a "prime patch" card put up on ebay with this description:

"Rickey must have barfed on his jersey that day, because this prime card is sooo prime, that it smells like Jaegermeister." ::facepalm::

Hey, maybe that will be the next big thing in inserts. Kinda like the old scratch n' sniff. Grass, leather and Jager! That could also be a ******'s autobiography now that I think about it. ::facepalm::

Dont know if you Rickey guys like McFarlane figures, but here is a preview image of Rickey's first McFarlane figure that is gonna be in the soon to be released McFarlane Cooperstown 8 line up......

Figure looks great imo and i will definitely be buying one. There is also gonna be a Yankees variation as well.
