Hi Rickey collectors -

Have you guys ever seen any items or pictures of Rickey as a Jersey City Indian? Being from Jersey City, I've always wondered if there was anything I could own of Rickey from that 1978 season. Thanks.

Not sure that there was anything official, but I know there is a knockoff out there. Nothing beats that Chong!

I have a pic of him from that time that I had autographed at a show. He was impressed with it. I will post later.

Awesome! Where can I get one of those? :)

Interestingly, I saw him play as a Jersey City Indian but was really young and don't remember much.

If anyone is interested in that jersey, I know I am....Ebbets Field has told me they can make any Minor League jersey if you tell them the team and year. I'm going to look into it.

I might be, depending on cost... OK nevermind, scratch that.

It's crazy, all these years I pondered on it. My favorite team has just about always been the Indians. Rickey played for soooo many teams, but never the Indians. And only now, all these years later, do I realize that he did sort of play for the Indians. *sigh*

Well Ryan, it appears to be an interesting story concerning the name "Indians". From what info I have been able to find, the JC Indians were a minor league team for the Cleveland Indians in 77 & became an A's affiliate during the 78 season, and were known as the JC A's at that time too, but for whatever reason, the name "Indians" stuck. The played at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City and then moved again to Waterbury CT. in 79. I also have another pic form his minor league days, but might be Modesto. Not sure. Let me know what you guys think.

Anyone recognize the area in the background?

You really do. I need a new scanner, but still consider mine better than nothing (by an ever shrinking margin)....

That's about all I can recognize in that picture. "You need a scanner." Better recognize. Word.

That photo is probably from his Modesto days. Even when Rickey played there, the stadium was really rundown but I'd recognized it in a heartbeat. It actually resembled Wrigley a bit. I not quite sure how the Jersey Indians worked but I do know that a lot of players were also lent out to the Indians and I had always presumed that was how Rickey ended up there. Also, during that time, Rickey played against Wade Boggs during that year. Besides Rickey, the only other significant big leaguer that I remember was Toronto Blue Jay pitcher Jim Clancey. Hey, if you ever make a nice scan of the JC pictures, please let me know. My late dad even covered the Indians during that year for a small paper.

Anyone have better pictures of the jersey? I'll email Ebbett's later today and see what they say (probably Monday or so).

On another note....I have always thought of what I would do with my collection when something happened to me. Would I leave it ot kids, would they sell it? I've thought about asking the HOF if they would have any use for it. Anyone else have any ideas? By the way, I don't plan on having to do anything with it for about 60 years, but still...

****NEWS FLASH****
I'm heading home in a few weeks and I'll be bringing as much of my Rickey collection as I can fit in the trunk of my car. May have to do some more ******* when I get it here.

So I have dealt with some of the "regulars" here. But I don't know everyone, not sure if everyone knows me either.

Brian 28, originally from Ohio, now live in Iowa. Started collecting Rickey when I was around 12. Saw him play in Toronto in 1993 when the Jays clinched division against Yankees. Have a sweet Toronto newspaper I'll be bringing back with me from my visit home. Just hope my car doesn't go missing with my whole collection packed in it.

This card always made me mad too. At least use the same patch they used in the Series. I know it's not game used, and was "made" but use the right patch.

Kind of looks like the "k" in Oakland

As I was laying in bed last night, that did dawn on me that is was the K. I was too tired to get up and post, and I forgot about it today. So it was from a 1983 or 1984 A's green road jersey that had OAKLAND on the front.

Did these cards show pictures of the jersey on the back? I really like the cards that showed what jersey they were supposedly cut from.

I wonder if Rickey ever wore a camo Padres jersey? Anyway, that is an incredible collection of Rickey jerseys. Manomanoman.

Sorry, forgot to answer this. Yes Rickey wore a camo jersey. M&N makes a Gwynn, and I have asked if they would make me a custom Rickey but they declined. Told them I would pay extra and would promise to not sell it as it would be for my personal collection but they said they couldn't due to copyright since Rickey doesn't have a contract with them. I also asked about a 1969 throwback since they made the jerseys worn for the game these patches were taken from.

I have searched eBay for a camo Padres jersey, but can't find one like they wore in 2001, only the newer style which isn't the same.
