Hey, no comments from me. I can't use a Mac, I tried once and it almost blew me up.

Kinda hard to do, unless you press the windows.served.blowmyassup key. Macs don't like going backwards in tech! :D

So my wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas the other day, while I am sitting in my office at home. I am surrounded by all my collections in there. I just cocked my head at her and gave her "the face" ::facepalm:: and asked, "Really? You are asking me, after 21 years together, here in this room?" She seemed very ernest. I told her that ANY, and I do mean ANY thing from ANY of the current collections would be great. Her response was, "Well, I don't know what you have." Dang, I have a list on the computer of Henderson stuff that she KNOWS how to use, and it is up to the minute updated, and if it is Star Wars, then even if I have it, 2 is better!!! Same for mustangs or ANY vintage toy from the 80's. It's all good.

Any of you get that question? Also, what would your ultimate gift be? No world peace or other beauty pageant style answers. I would like to have the new Bugatti Veyron Sport. Only runs a cool 2.4 mil, but has 1100 hp v16, and will do 265mph. But in reality, I would love to start to get some of the late 90's cards off of my want list. They have been there 10-15 years!

I've just had my wife get my Beckett gift certificates that last couple of years :) I usually have no trouble finding something on there that I need. They can be a bit overpriced, but I find it's easier to just bite the bullet when it's a gift card.

Sorry about my recent disappearance, but now that school is almost over, I should be back more frequently. I haven't had the time or the money for many new Rickey's, but I did just pick up a Polo Grounds #/15 for only #5, which I thought was a pretty sweet deal!

Hey Fellow Rickey Enthusiasts,

My name is Mike and I just joined FCB a few days ago. I have been collecting cards off and on since I was about 8 years old (20 years ago), and I am a huge Rickey fan. Some of my earliest baseball memories involve sitting in the left field bleachers at the old Coliseum (before Al Davis screwed it up) and watching Rickey, Hendu, Carney, Stew, the Bash Brothers, etc.

Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself. Check out my sig for my current Rickey card ISO. I am trying to finish off a complete basic Topps PSA Graded set of Rickey Henderson. They don't need to be 10's, just PSA 8's and up, basically.

I'm also looking for ideas for my next Rickey Henderson collecting adventure. Obviously, the 1977 Chong is on the list, but that Holy Grail will have to wait.

Thanks, and I am looking forward to following this thread. It was obviously the first one I bookmarked :)

-Mike

Welcome Mike, come in, have a seat and stay a while. Once in a while, we get some really cool pics up, (except for me ::facepalm:: ) and would love to see and hear more about your collection!

Thanks. I just started working on a true Rickey collection recently. I have spent the last couple years slowly building my PSA Graded Topps Basic Complete Set (check my sig for the three cards left!).

I just posted three of my favorites in My Bucket - http://s1105.photobucket.com/albums/h353/alwayson22/

Welcome Mike. I don't have any PSA cards, but could definitely send you ones of the 3 you have remaining in your want list that would grade out very high. You could send them off to get graded if you want.

Also, I know you guys are always hounds on ebay, but if you don't care about not having the original box, $35 on the BIN is a VERY good price for this hard-to-find Rickey. I would buy it, but already have 2 of them (if one of you doesn't beat me to it, I might buy it anyway....somebody save me from my itchy trigger finger ::facepalm:: )

1991 Sports Impressions Statue Artists Proof (There were only 94 of these made....way less than the Salvinos)

Just in the holiday spirit I guess. :grouphug:

Hey guys, sorry for the disappearance, but finals are finally over, and I'm back from vacation, so I should be here more often. I still don't have any "Rickey money," but that won't stop me from seeing what's out there!

This info about a new Topps retro set, "2011 Topps Gypsy Queen" was just released, and it will include at least a Rickey relic card:

I am hoping that it is only one relic card. So many Topps cards at one time Just. Can't. Afford. All. :( Head spinning, wife scowling. ;)

I would love to see a good break in "new" Henderson cards. Don't get me wrong, I am glad he is so popular that he is still being made, but enough with the 9 versions of the same card, and 7 "different" cards with 12 versions of those too. I am kinda burned out on parallels. Maybe if more effort were put into the parallels instead of just minor, front only, don't even change the picture across the set (I am looking at you triple threads) I might be happier to try to collect them all. Or, how about this. One or two really nice cards with pictures that we haven't seen before. Some effort into quality over quantity. I really like the Topps Sterling base Yankees card. But, #'d to 250, 50, 10, 5, 3, and 1?!? Overkill, and ruined. I think companies should start looking at the market and seeing what over saturation has done to cards. They don't really remember the early 90's do they? So many cards and not enough buyers. Now, they are going with so many of the same player, not enough interest to buy the high dollar packs for other collectors. Why would I want 24 versions of a rookie that hasn't seen the bigs on the off chance that may be good in 5 years and keep his nose above the Mendoza line. You might score really well prospecting once every other year, but in reality, do we really need all of the crap to water down what is essentially a good product? If you look at each year since 2000, how many big name stars can you come up with that have cards that have held their value? Holding onto a $1 rookie value doesn't count :D I mean good, high value cards. How many can you name? Not too many. Now, how many cards of Joe Prospect will be made each year, squeezing out named players already in the bigs? Way more than you can (or care) to think about. I know that rookies are a big part of collecting, and that is what drives lots of the sales, but that's where the quality comes back in again. I could go on, but right about now you all are tired of reading this and my soap box is starting to sag, so I'll stop. I guess I just want quality, not recycled quantity. I miss all of the crazy late 1990's inserts. People were smoking some weird stuff back then, but at least is was very fresh and different each year.

Larry, you should run for President. I agree with you on all points. How about some Padres, Angels, Jays, Dodgers , Mets, & Yanks Pics? I almost shat myself when I saw that Sterling had a Dodgers & Yanks pic.
I have decided to stop collecting his cards after this year because of all the different low numbered cards and rehashed pics which drive me crazy. I know I will have a real hard time with this, but its just so damn expensive. I have tons of other cards from the past to search for. It woudnt be so bad, if we could work as a group and do some kind of yearly rotation, like when each new card comes out, we let the next guy in line bid and so on. If we could get Rjew & bballralph in on it, we could probably save a small fortune & lower the prices on some of these cards. Just an idea, that probably would never work.

Hey, I'd be for that idea, but it would never work because there is always the "gotta have it first" routine. We could save a small fortune if we communicated.

nothing wrong with stopping collecting Rickey this year. 1980 to 2010 is a great clip to cover.

Also, 2011 stuff will be there in the future

Hey guys, i was wondering....How many Rickey Rookies do you own?

From the official Rookie, 1980 Topps card count I have 7. Also have the 79 Tacoma and the 77 Modesto. Numerous reprints of the 1980 card, more than I care to count.

Do any of you actually have a counterfiet Rickey rookie? I know there were some out there. I only have the "Cleveland" reprint.
