I think there are actually 2 pencils. I don't have either, but I think they have different numbers. Series 1 and 2 I think.

Both of the pencils were listed on eBay today, and can be had via BIN.

So, I sold a bunch of Rickey's to a fellow collector, and this is how they arrived...

Has anyone ever seen anything like this?? Any insight you could provide Larry?
It looks like it was either shot with a BB gun or stabbed with a spear! I had actually packaged the cards really well, and had no doubt they would arrive safely, so was pretty shocked when I saw the picks.

They punched a hole through a thick photo mailer, an inner piece of cardboard, and the Toploader. Since this was obviously the post offices fault, is there any chance of being compensated without insurance?

I had a card come last year that looked like that. It was a prime patches jumbo of another player and it had a hole through the mailer. The toploader was poked in the front all the way through to the back. Luckily, it was in the swatch area, so the damage only really showed on the back of the card.

I had something like that happen to me, but they managed to mess it up without poking a hole in the bubble mailer.

What really sucks is I have 5 or 6 (I think) of the 25 of those made. So I didn't even contact the seller. Just overpaid for a severely damaged card. Sigh.

I also have this super awesome 1/1 somewhere... it's a CC Topps Gold card, and it's embossed by the PO. You can see very clearly the round postmark. I'll have to dig that up sometime. I tried to scan it once, it didn't work, like some of the embossed national cards...

Well, hopefully the stress is over! Just have to put the finishing touches on the yard, and our house in the ghetto will look as nice as it possibly can. Getting dragged to HP7.2 tonight, and the relatives start arriving tomorrow. Then it's just going to be one great big week long party. Her family really loves to party, and they're pretty good at it too. After the week of partying, we'll be escaping to Vegas for a few days of rest and relaxation. We only have a few days, because lil Néne's birthday party is on Saturday. So, if I don't show up on the boards much for a minute, you know why. If you really need to reach me, I'll be in Vegas from July 26-29. I like to hang out at The Fitz yo. ;) I should hit up McFly and see if he'll be around, maybe grab some dinner.

So I just realized I have an extra 91 Star Silver Promo /400. Also a few other Star promos if anyone is interested. There are some I need but I gotta go to work. Still working on the list Brad sent me. I'm up to almost 2002 or 2003 updated. I started a spreadsheet that keeps track of how many serial, game used, auto and total cards with a % as well.

Also whats up woth all the O'Connell & Sons card on eBay lately? Is this just a case of when it rains it pours? Or are they fake? Don't see a card for years then it's listed 2-3 times a week. Odd to me.

I've been wondering the same thing! I think I've on;y seen 1-2 listed in the past 3 years or so, since I've gotten back int collecting. Then afew months ago one is listed, and it sells fro around $40, now as you mentioned there's a few a week, and they're selling for $0.99. So, either someone found a stash of them somewhere, or they are printing there own. I'm almost tempted to buy one and compare it to what I already have.

Yeah I bought one awhile back thinking I got a good deal on a rare card. I think I paid around $24 or so for it.

In the 90's insert card thread there was a Puckett 91 Score Promo (no 90 stats). Does Rickey have one of those? What all players were released? This was when Rickey was really popular as a promo guy because he was nearing the record and all.

Yet another question. I don't have everything unpacked so I can't go check right now.

2002 Donruss Fan Club and Best of Fan Club are the subjects in question. Is this correct? I know the BOFC are, but not sure about the FC.

Best of Fan Club Records R4 /300
Best of Fan Club Records R5 /300
Best of Fan Club Records Bat R4 /150
Best of Fan Club Records Bat R5 /150
Fan Club Records R4 no serial
Fan Club Records R5 no serial

If this guy is right in his description, then only the teal '91s were made as promos.

Why did Topps use this patch? To my knowledge Rickey never wore a jersey that had this patch.

Topps didn't. That card is as fake as it gets, and has been sold and resold on eBay 5-10 times over the past few years.

Does anyone have a side be side of the Donruss retail and factory versions? Were there any other variations?

Which year? You should have 12 copies, if you lay them out you will notice a difference in borders....

Well, it's the big day! Happy 24th!!!

David Eich's Rickeypedia page shows these variations (probably always the first place to check):
1987 Donruss...the variation is on the back - the orientation of the back is 180 degrees different...the only way to tell is to compare the backs side by side
1988 Donruss...the variation can be seen on the front....the non-blue colors (black, red, etc) in the upper right corner is the rarer of the variations
1989 Donruss didn't have any easy to find variations, but Dave's sites shows some (these seem like printing errors to me rather than explicit variations)
1990 Donruss...also seen on the front and it is very difficult to spot...in the normal version, there are three black spots on the left that are higher than his elbow and there is a bigger black splotch on the right near his foot that looks a little like New Jersey; on the factory variation the ones on the left are about even with his elblow and there is no big splotch near his foot
1991 Donruss...different stripe combinations on the borders. NOTE: These are NOT shown on Dave Eich's site, but I'll try to describe (I have pics but too lazy to upload right now):
#53 - the factory variation has three yellow lines in the border
#387 - has blue lines on the right border
#648 - has one yellow line on the top right
#761 - has yellow lines on the left side
1992 Donruss....no variations, just printing flaws with "Donruss Inc" and "Donruss Inc."

none before or after this span that I am aware of
