For all you weirdos out there, here's a "variation" that is pushing the limits of good taste. The 1991 Topps Micro glow front / non-glow front variation.

Don't recall where I read about this, but it was some post by some guy on some board. So I decided to see for myself. I bought all the 91 Micro cards on COMC, and when they arrived I dutifully brought out the UV light. Which, incidentally, I bought to determine the glowiness of my various 1991 Topps and Bowman backs.

And yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. Some of them glow, and some of them are kinda flat. So without further ado, here's the photographic proof.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm definitely one of the weirdos but I finally got my COMC order today and added the non-UV glow versions of Kelly Gruber's cards to my collection.

I hope you are aware of this listing that ends in an hour, it's one of the rare spots where our collections meet (but luckily for you I already have one):

Cool! I'm glad at least one fellow weirdo took the plunge on the 91 micro UV rainbow :)

Also, thanks for the tip on that listing. Somehow I missed it though, it just never showed up in any of my searches.

Here's one from the waning years of DLP that arrived in my mailbox yesterday. The 2005 Donruss 25th Anniversary parallel /25. It's little known, seldom seen, not terribly expensive, and it nicely filled a little hole in the ol' collection. My favorite kind of pickup!

And the answer is: $273. I thought it would go for way, way more than that. Probably $600+. But it didn't, and I won it with what I thought would end up as a token bid.

Believe it or not, it's the first 1/1 I have from his playing career days. Assuming it arrives in the ol' mailbox intact.

Any guesses on what this little gem will sell for??

So here it is!
2003 Leaf Certified Materials Mirror Black Autograph #114 SN 2.jpg

Speaking of 1/1's, here is the breakdown of pack-issued 1/1's from homie's playing career:

1997 3
1998 20
1999 22
2000 11
2001 7
2002 2
2003 21
2004 30
2005 44
Total 160

It's interesting how they were pretty popular after 1997 Showcase introduced them, but then fell off around 2000, then came roaring back towards the mid 2000's. There are now well over 1000 pack-issued Alomar 1/1's.

Back to earth for this post. Three inserts from various 2001 SP issues, with their much rarer gold versions.

For some reason, UD had a thing about bronze, silver, gold in those days. Especially gold. Maybe trump was one of their major stakeholders. Anyhoo...

First is the 2001 SP Game Bat Edition Piece of the Game insert, plus its GOLD cousin which was hand-numbered (!) to 25. The regular insert is probably one of the most abundant game-used inserts out there. I swear there were thousands of them made.

Next is the 2001 SP Game Bat Milestone Piece of the Action International insert, with its ****GOLD**** cousin, hand-numbered (!) to 35.

Finally, the 2001 SP Game Used Edition Authentic Fabric, with its $$$$GOLD$$$$ cousin, machine numbered to 25. Just got the gold one in recently, and happy to complete this strange little run.

I think it probably is a gag. But I've seen lots of ebay listings that are done for laughs, that are actually funny. Like the guy in the 90's who was selling his services under the title "I Will Kick Your Ass". You had to buy him a plane ticket and give him your address, and then he would show up and kick your teeth in. You also had to put him up at a decent hotel, and all these other requirements. It was legitimately hilarious.

But this one, it's just baffling. A 0 feedback seller, who promises to give 10% of his sales to the Hawaii fire relief effort, listing a $0.25 card for $50 million dollars. In the grand scheme, it's harmless. But on the other hand, there is zero point to this. It's not even humorous in the least. It's just the kind of digital pollution that makes today's internet suck.

Or maybe he's just a psychology grad student at Roast Beef State doing some stupid little thesis project.

That listing is pretty funny. Seller even has their profile pic at 90 degrees. I assume the profile was made for laughs but you never know...

Maybe someone will bite for publicity advertising...or not. I also hate the world.

Here are a few recent pickups, some cool stuff IMHO. There's also a massive card (by my standards) on the way. A white whale. I won't jinx it, but I'm definitely posting it when I get it in hand!

1999 Tek Gold #8B-28 SN10. This is the 18th gold I've managed to snag. One more may be coming...depends on if I win the auction...

2004 Playoff Honors Players Collection Gold #PC-78 SN10. There's one more I need for the complete run, and it's the other gold from Honors (#PC-77).

2001 Donruss Studio Leather & Lumber Combos #LL-21 SN 25. These inserts from 2001 Studio are TOUGH to find. Alomar has 4 of them numbered to 25, and another to 75. Still needing a couple of the 25's, but really glad to add this one.

2023 Donruss Yellow #151. This was my last non-1/1 for the complete run. For some strange reason I decided to chase this one. The design is not great, reminiscent of the nasty 1991 style. And the parallels are super cheesy. But I did it anyway. Don't ask me to explain.

Now for the absolute definition of a run-of-the-mill pickup. The 2005 Donruss Champions Orange Foil (Retail) #28 SN75. Apparently this was the very last issue by DLP before they went belly up.

Homeboy had 3 cards in this set, #'s 20, 28, and 216. And each one had the following parallels:

Impressions (wow! they changed the foil color and added a little "impressions" text in the center of the card...and still left the entire right hand side of the card blank. thanks)

Impressions red /250. Same as above, red foil.

Impressions blue /100. Same as above, blue foil. Don't get me wrong, I am not opposed to parallels with different foil colors. I'm obsessed with late 90's / early 2000's Pacific parallels, which were mostly of this ilk. But this 2005 Champions release was just soooo lame. Such a bad, uninspired card design. So much so that Baseballcardpedia calls it a "sticker and relic dump". So yeah.

Impressions orange /75. Retail only.

Impressions gold /50.

Impressions green /25.

Impressions black/5. Not really that black on the foil. Very hard to tell apart from the base "impressions" card, which has silver foil. You really need to see the SN/5 on back to be sure.

There were also some jersey parallels, ranging from un-numbered to 1/1's. And apparently each of these three Alomars - along with much of the set - were produced as SAMPLE cards. Never seen one of those.

Nice pickup ! The orange is more difficult than expected.

A while ago an entire 2005 sample set sold. I ''ll dig some out and scan high res for you. Will need to go to my storage unit so give me 3 or 4 days but I will scan some.

Since its an Alomar thread will keep on topic
