fresh in from the Vault, and this goes very nicely with the Topps contracts above.

from the auction description:
(2) Original Topps Baseball Player Gift List File Card. Direct from the Topps Vault comes this original Topps Gift List file card. Oversize file card measures approx. 5" X 8" and is in its original state. Topps maintained gift cards like these for many years. Card contains the player's gift choices and Topps baseball card payment history. Players were eligible each year for a gift from the Topps catalog or cash in exchange for their baseball card rights.

The first part has some cool pencil writing with some of his minor league movement in the early 80s (top left). Also noteworthy is that he was compensated a whopping $5 in 1979. Woo hoo!

This little section was cut out from another card that wasn't included, and was stapled to the first part at the top right of that file card.

Lastly, this 2nd full-size file card has an obvious missing piece. Not sure what was written there, if anything.

This arrived a few days ago. I'm a little puzzled about the timeline on this. The previous Topps contracts were signed every three years (1988, 1991 and 1994). I'm not at all sure why this 1993 contract was needed.

While I was looking through a stack of stuff in one of my bookcases, I came across this item that I purchased back in 2010. These are the photo match prints for his 1995 Topps Stadium Club card, front and back.

I think the 'photo match prints' are like proofs - they're used to make sure cards will be printed properly. I believe negatives and positives are used in the physical manufacturing process to produce plates. Have you found this to be the case?

Yesterday brought one of the cooler Butler maildays I've had in quite some time: 1992 Bowman final original published negative - actual color transparency used to create the card. The actual negative is much smaller than what I've shown here - I blew it up to show detail.

I was expecting a very cool item, and that is exactly what I got. However, I wasn't expecting what came along for the ride. It appears to be a hand-drawn mockup of what the card was going to look like. It is done on some sort of thin plastic sheet.

Very nice pickups. I really wish they'd get a move on with the Meulens stuff. I've yet to see a single Hensley Meulens item They are missing out of dozens of dollars in sales there!

Beautiful. The Vault has been kind to you; you've gotten the gamut of really great items. I'm always excited for you when you actually get to add something new.

Some of my favorite Vault items are the 'color' proofs. I got a couple more of them in the mail recently.

1985 Topps 'blackless' proof and 1985 Topps black & white blank back proof

I already had a couple others from 1985. I'm hoping I see more released at some point in the future.

This thread is just amazing! Blows me away every time!
I just picked up the same cards of Gwynn (85 Color Proofs)...not here yet, but any day. I pass on alot of Vault stuff, but these definitely caught my eye, and still came at a great price.
I think we have some very similar maildays this week!

Many player collectors get to the point where they'll take darn near anything they can get. Over the past couple of months, here is some of the random stuff that I've managed to grab:

2005 Arizona Diamondbacks nameplate - this would go over his locker on road games when he was the first base coach with Arizona.

1981 Richmond Braves postcard - I didn't know this existed until it popped up on eBay.
TNP777/Random stuff/butlerpostcardfront.jpg TNP777/Random stuff/butlerpostcardback.jpg

1992 Topps contract from the Topps Vault - this is the 5th Topps contract in my collection.

2012 Reno Aces bobblehead commemorating the Aces AAA Championship - I'd love to see a bobblehead released as a player someday.

2013 Pacific Coast League All-Star, 2013 Reno Aces (I don't have access to my scanner, so I borrowed the pic from the completed auction)

Ouch! THat Leaf History brought this thread to a grinding halt!! lol!
5 Topps contract is insane! That one covers 3 years, so five contract must cover most of his career??

Thanks so much for posting your recent pickups. It makes it extremely nice to see what some of the others are picking up in relation to their player collections. I "really" like the Topps Baseball Player Gift List File Card. There was one years ago for Brooks Robinson on Ebay that I passed on at the time because I didn't have the money (I should have borrowed!). I regret passing up on it now since, I can only assume, this is the only file copy they had for the particular player.

Ok, five contracts...it's time to let the other Butler collectors have one...(if there is anymore!).

Regarding the Leaf History... like I said, some of us get to the point where we take anything we can get. There are so few cards on my wantlist that I find myself inventing things to collect sometimes. At least this one came from an actual release.

Regarding the Topps contracts... you'd think I would have his entire career spanned, but actually not. The first three I landed were these:
* signed in 1988, covering through 1991
* signed in 1991, covering through 1994
* signed in 1994, covering through 1997

Then this one pops up:
* signed in 1993, covering through 1996

Huh??

There is also one on topps.com available for the low, low price of $125. I didn't pay close to that for the five I've got.
* signed in 1996, covering through 1998

So out of the six that have come up, they appear to be all over the place

* signed in 1988, covering through 1991
* signed in 1991, covering through 1994
* signed in 1992, covering through 1995
* signed in 1993, covering through 1996
* signed in 1994, covering through 1997
* signed in 1996, covering through 1998

I received a great surprise from a board member over on CU today. I got a PM from him several days ago asking me for my addy, and needless to say I was shocked when I opened the bubble mailer.

I have been lucky enough to land a few of these over the years, but I don't think any of them are this nice. I had been planning to send a couple of them in a future group sub, but I don't think I'll bother now.

I want to get my aqueous graded soon myself. I found this whole going through a box of cards from a random collection I bought a while back. Does it look legit? The card I a bit rough.

The answer to this may be in the fact that the contracts all appear to be one year extentions. The 1988 one, for instance, does not give Topps the right to produce cards through 1991; Topps already had that right (presumably through a previous contract with Butler). Rather, it proactively gives Topps the right to one additional year, this one being for the 1992 season.

So each contract is not a three year contract, but rather a one year contract signed three years in advance.

I'm usually very excited to obtain items from the Vault. Today's mail brought what should be my 6th Butler contract, although I'm not fully convinced. The first 5 (1988, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1994) I obtained were on full-color Topps letterhead and printed on a heavier paper stock. All 5 were co-signed by Philip J. Carter.

This new one is from 1989 and bears Sy Berger's signature. I didn't bother looking at the provided picture as I have never had a negative experience with Topps - everything was 100% legit. A quick glance at my scans will show that there is one contract that is black & white, and is in fact a photocopy on regular ol' paper stock. Butler's sig looks to be original (hard to tell in my scan - looks better in person and under magnification), but I'm not completely sure. I sent a message to Topps through eBay to see what they have to say. If it proves to be what they actually used when he renewed in 1989, then I indeed have my 6th contract.

Compare this to the other contracts earlier in the thread
