New documents just obtained show Pete Rose bet while he played. Looks like that lifetime ban is getting upheld

Just saw that on ESPN, going to be hard for people to argue against the lifetime ban with this proof plus Pete is caught in another lie.

Did it show he ever bet against his own team?

OF COURSE he did.

He didn't just develop this gambling addiction as soon as he retired as a player.

I've thought all along he bet as a player too. And it was only a matter of time before it came to light.

You're a fool if you think he didn't bet as a player too, and if you think he still deserves to be in the HOF.

I think he has only one defense to get out of this now. . .

Anyone think the Reds will still allow this fat piece of garbage to participate in the All Star Game festivities?

I think it should only be an issue if he bet against his team. If he didn't, who cares? People get way too uptight about a game. Dude has more hits than anyone ever, put him, shoeless Joe Jackson, Barry, Roger and Alex in the hall.

There are certain standards that professional players have to be held to. I think Pete has also "done his time" so to speak and has been shunned from the league for awhile but he's maintained over and over and over that he never bet as a player and now another lie is uncovered. To prevent players from doing this in the future he should continue to get the hammer.

Betting on or against your own team is very close to insider trading, something punishable by years in prison.

Pete would be a much more sypathetic figure had he bet on the Reds every day. While he did never (to my knowledge) bet against the Reds, not betting on the Reds was an acknowledgement of a lack of faith on his part.

Then all baseball players should be banned from fantasy baseball

you read my mind. After hearing Pete bet on baseball as a player and me deciding he should never ever be reinstated since he didn't come forward with the admission when given an opportunity, it got me to wonder how many front office, players and managers play DraftKings, the sanctioned gambling arm of MLB, in effect "betting on baseball".

End of story.

Was just coming here to post this exact same thing.

"MLB Rule 21, "Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible."

Some people apparently have no idea what the word in bold means.
