Have you been to the National where grown men push, shove, yell, and fight to get free handouts and promotional cards? It is no different. No better, no worse. They are begging for free stuff, many show up every day to get the same promotional (i.e. the Strasburg Heritage card from two years ago), and many sell them asap. And I heard numerous VIP's all whine that the cards weren't free because they paid for their VIP packages to justify begging for free stuff to offset their hobby.

I am not condoning the actions of either group but this cuts both ways.

There's a word for those men.

Losers.

And sometimes you show up several days with no other intention but to sell off the graphs. Ask the OP about the Bryce Harper autos we had to hear all about, until he wanted to sell them off of course. And please dont give me the whole "games are not free routine" cause that dont justify begging for free stuff to offset your hobby.

My point about the games was that there are simply too many people trying to get autos there. The athletes say to hell with it. And I can't blame them.

And also, asking isn't necessarily begging.

I've been there and i've seen that but that has alot more to do with the lack of planning those giving away free things at the national.

If anyone thinks that the criticism here is about the typical grapher, I think you should go back and read some of the jewels from the OP.

Also, the idea that because you "pay his salary" is an old and tired excuse. Athletes get paid to perform and in some cases, cater to fans through autographs and the like. You pay the salary of your doctor but you wouldnt ask him to give you a physical if he was at the table next to you at a restaurant. The entitlement factor of some people on here when it comes to autos is over the top.

Also, that coming from a guy who most would say i love entitlements!

I agree with you 100% on your statement regarding the entitlement mentality of many of the IP auto crowd. I tried to make that point earlier and I realize it gives the group a bad name. Calling guys jerks for merely exercising their right to say no once and awhile, chasing guys to restaurants & hotels, running after cars, etc. is embarassing to say the least. But IP auto hounds aren't the only people in the card/memorabilia hobby with that mentality and it seems hypocritical to me to not acknowledge that just because one doesn't partake in one or the other.

I like the sad face when Ryan Howard signed his card in black, and wouldn't take his blue marker. Come on man, just be happy you're getting his autograph... three times.

Jesus, you guys are a bunch of sensitive pusses.

Big Mac, if I were you, I just wouldn't share anything here anymore. Seems like more people want to whine, XXXXX, and moan about it every time you post a thread.

I really hope he decides to keep sharing and he can ignore. Because I personally love seeing these posts.

I dont care how someone got the autograph, that is the biggest bullXXXX in this entire hobby. If you can prove the autograph is authentic and I feel it is authentic that is all I need to know. I understand the well he got it for a grand total of .50 cents TTM and is selling it for $45.00 but it is still a legit autograph, do you think it costs Apple $699 to make an iPad, not a chance it probably costs less than $25 to make each of those however they sell for 700 all day. I pay for an autograph not the way someone got it. I could care less an auto is an auto. Just because you purchase it at a sit down signing or from a company that had a sit down signing does that make it better, not in my eyes.

I do a lot of IP graphing. I have also been to my fair share of card shows.

IP graphers are a lot nicer than a good share of people I meet at shows.

I think a few bad apples ruined the reputation of it.

I agree. It's like that down here too. But even some of the dealers are cool and offer good information to try to help you out. Honestly, some of the dealers out here work real jobs and do this just to supplement their income. They take the same chance non-sellers do. They may or may not get an auto. They may or may not get a good auto. And if you get a bad auto, at least as a collector you can keep it. Try selling it and you might not be able to.

And then we have a few folks who just act like plain asses because they can and nobody wants to go to jail for slapping them upside the head.
