For those who might not know, Westmoreland isn't exactly recovering from wrist surgery or something else vanilla.

In March, Westmoreland underwent a procedure to remove a cavernous malformation from his brain stem and no one was particularly confident that he'd play baseball again. Hitting off the tee is excellent news.

The excellent news is that Westmoreland is actually alive today. I don't want to be a downer, but it was never in question after the operation was deemed successful that he would be able to function in terms of living a normal life. Hitting off a tee is included in those activities. The issues regarding his baseball future are going to be if the operation influenced his reaction time, his vision, or his cognition. If he lost even a marginal amount of cognition, then his reaction speed could have diminished to the extent that a career in baseball may not be possible.

Obviously, I hope and wish the best for Mr. Westmoreland, but hitting off the tee is not something that should be viewed as a precursor or any indication of the success of his operation. We just don't know enough right now to speculate.
