Just curious, how many of you are considering getting out of collecting because of the economy and the fact that you think that cards will plummet so low that they become basically worthless?
I've been collecting/prospecting for almost 10 years now but I'm seriously considering selling my collection and getting what I can before the economy gets so bad that nobody with the exception of really rich people has extra money to spend on cards. Is anyone else in the same boat? I'm a straight white male btw so I'm a little worried about my future at least for the next 3 years to say the least lol.

As a player collector, I'm not selling my collection at all. I may cut back on spending (as I have already) but since quite a few of the "nicer" cards came from generous board members, I would be insulting them if I sold the cards I obtained for free.

I'm just focusing on buying cards that I want. I think baseball cards went through a bubble period, I don't think we'll ever see prices get back to where they once were.

You really think the economy will get that bad? I think it's starting to level out right now.

The economy is, always has been, and always will be cyclical. No matter how smart or stupid our government leaders are there will be booms and busts. If all baseball cards become worthless your money probably will be too. The only thing that could really cause this is some kind of societal collapse.

Why would you sell your collection when nobody has any money? You sell collections of memorabilia when the economy is doing fantastic not when it's struggling.

Unless you have some awesome and rare Astros autographs. Then sell now.

If your future is invested in your hobby you should really get your priorities straightened out, not being nasty just being honest.

I have never though about selling my collection.

If you really think the economy is going to hit epically low proportions, then by all means, sell.

If you don't, just beware non-white, homosexual males and you should be fine.

::facepalm::

What exactly does this mean? IS this country running out of white males?

If you're really looking for an investment, put your money into T-bills instead of card - maybe you'll sleep better.

It's a fact that straight, white Christian males are targeted for hatred by liberals which means that if anyone except for a conservative-thinking white male is a hiring manager, a white male will likely be the last choice to be hired for a job in favor of a woman, effeminate-acting white male or minority male to meet the company's hiring quota. That may sound funny but it's the truth. Even straight white male liberals tend to hate masculine-looking white males because they have allowed themselves to be brainwashed so much by the media that they hate what they were born as. I don't want to keep going on and on because this is a forum to discuss sports cards but I don't have affirmative action on my side and I wasn't born into a rich family so I've always had to work hard for anything I have.

If the cards I have get any cheaper I will shoot myself in the foot! ::facepalm::
Seriously, why just sell off everything when you know you will probably lose money on it? I have been trying to move some stuff but auctions are dead so I am just doing BIN's. Sell through percentage has gone down every single month.

As someone that tends to disagree with "liberals", I have to let you know something: You're insane. It doesn't sound funny. It sounds stupid and paranoid. Show me a specific example of a non-white possibly homosexual person that has insane amounts of money and didn't have to work in any way for it.

Why does everyone have to feel so victimized? As a white male I can tell you that I've run into few roadblocks in life that I didn't put there myself or that any other person would have experienced. Next you'll tell us how you were rejected from college in lieu of a semi-lucid black woman from the ghetto.

Give me a friggin' break, dude. You're feeling sorry for yourself because you're in the majority? Stop drinking the ultra-conservative Kool-Aid. This post is the most racist/sexist thing I've read all week.

Oh god, I just got a job offer from a black woman. How do you explain that?
