Sickels really just pisses me off. These explanations are pathetic. Where is Lambo? I find it funny how we actually consider this guy to know his stuff when in reality, he just says the same thing about every player.

Jameson Taillon B+

Luis Heredia B

One of those names does NOT belong with the others.

(One of those names isn't with the others....)

I'm very surprised Lambo didn't crack the list and I think he overvalues Moreno, but the overall assessment of the system seems pretty spot on. There are a ton of young, raw players in the system. It seems that management is hoping if they have enough quantity in the system, eventually something will stick.

Taillon should be at least an A- despite not playing yet. He has a deadly repertoire with upper 90s heat and two plus breakers, not to mention a change that should be average with a chance to be better. Also has the body of a horse with size to boot.

I feel there has to be more separation between Taillon and the others, he is a much better prospect than anyone else in the system.

Alderson does not even make the top 20. Boy has he fallen
That's the name that I immediately noticed missing from the top 20. He was hyped big time a few years ago...Which leads me the nitpicking about Tallion's B+ grade. He is a high school arm who hasn't thrown a pitch in professional ball. Let's let him face a few A ball batters before we pronounce him the second coming of Nolan Ryan/Strassburg/David Clyde.

Based on what we know about Taillon, he's better than any other prospect the Pirates have. Upper 90s heat with excellent control and three secondary offerings (two-seamer with lots of bite, circle change, and the "Best curveball in his draft class) , two of which could be plus or better pitches? Sounds like a B+ or better to me.

He gave him a B+ grade, stated that it was a conservative grade and made him the top prospect in the system. So what's the problem?
Sounds like a pretty good grade for a high school arm in a system with almost zero success in developing pitching.

I don't think its fair to blame their system now for the failures of the past. New coaches, GM's and philosophy on how to handle players. If anything they have been very light in how they have handled most young players, prefering to make them meet certain goals in the minors before moving up to their next level. The only player I feel they rushed was Pedro who had a nice last 2 months to make up for his dismal first 2.

Big issue for the Pirates is they don't have many prospects in AAA to help this year. Most of their talent is AA and below. That is why you saw them picking up some vets in FA. The players being blocked now like Bowker and Steve Pearce are not project to be much more than 0-1 WAR players anyway so I am not too concerned.
