Unless anyone on FCB can prove him innocent or guilty, Skip has as much of a right to his opinion as we do.

Let me stop you right there (you're welcome everyone else). Bayless is certainly allowed to have his opinion, and no one is saying he shouldn't have the right to express it.

Now watch as we all do the same and express OUR opinions of how big a dickhole most of us think **** Bayless is...

All I can do is laugh at this. You really put me in my place. I hope the **** part was an accident, I'm sure many on the board would be offended, if it was on purpose.

I hate Bayless but what he said is in fact accurate can we without a doubt say anyone that has played in the last 20 years or so hasn't done roids? I don't think jeter has but who really knows. This is just a big deal because of who said it.
Last 20? More like last 40.
Congress first investigated drugs and professional sports, including steroids over 30 years ago. I think perhaps the only two people in the room who will remember this are me and Commissioner Selig, because I believe he became an owner in 1970.
In 1973, the year I first ran for Congress, the House Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce concluded a year-long investigation that found — and I quote — “drug use exists ¦ in all sports and levels of competition ¦ In some instances, the degree of improper drug use — primarily amphetamines and anabolic steroids — can only be described as alarming.”
The Committee’s chairman — Harley Staggers — was concerned that making those findings public in a hearing would garner excessive attention and might actually encourage teenagers to use steroids. Instead, he quietly met with the commissioners of the major sports, and they assured him the problem would be taken care of.
Chairman Staggers urged Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn to consider instituting tough penalties and testing. And he trusted Commissioner Kuhn to do that. In fact, in a press release in May 1973, Chairman Staggers said — and again I quote — “Based on the constructive responses and assurances I have received from these gentlemen, I think self-regulation will be intensified, and will be effective.”
And here is something from Tom House: Former major league pitcher Tom House used steroids during his career and said performance-enhancing drugs were widespread in baseball in the 1960s and 1970s, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday.

House, perhaps best known for catching Hank Aaron's 715th home run ball in 1974 in the Atlanta Braves' bullpen, said he and several teammates used amphetamines, human growth hormone and "whatever steroid" they could find in order to keep up with the competition.
"I pretty much popped everything cold turkey," House said. "We were doing steroids they wouldn't give to horses. That was the '60s, when nobody knew. The good thing is, we know now. There's a lot more research and understanding."
House, a former pitching coach with the Texas Rangers and co-founder of the National Pitching Association near San Diego, is one of the first players to describe steroid use as far back as the 1960s.
He was drafted in 1967 by the Braves and pitched eight seasons for Atlanta, Boston and Seattle, finishing his career with a 29-23 record and 3.79 ERA.
House, 58, estimated that six or seven pitchers per team were at least experimenting with steroids or human growth hormone. He said players talked about losing to opponents using more effective drugs.
"We didn't get beat, we got out-milligrammed," he said. "And when you found out what they were taking, you started taking them."
House said he gained almost 30 pounds while using steroids, blaming the extra weight for contributing to knee problems. He said the drugs helped improve recovery time and conditioning but did not add velocity to his fastball.
"I tried everything known to man to improve my fastball, and it still didn't go faster than 82 miles per hour," House said. "I was a failed experiment."
House said he stopped using steroids after learning about the long-term harm they could cause.
"I'd like to say we were smart, but we didn't know what was going on," he said. "We were at the tail end of a generation that wasn't afraid to ingest anything. As research showed up, guys stopped."

There is just as much of a chance that Jeter has/is taking something as there is of any other player taking them. Who gives a damn.

I don't disagree, however it is important to understand the question he poses. He is simply saying that good guys can be brought into the mud because of the bad guys.

Without the steroid era no one would bat an eye at Jeter, at his age, being the highest producing SS in 2012.

No...it's really not. Given that we're in year....what....10 of the steroids era I'm pretty sure he doesn't really need to make this argument especially by insinuating that one of baseball's most beloved players needs to be tested. Anyone who doesn't understand the idea of guilty by association probably uses crayons to write on internet message boards.

I love when weasels say things like "I aint saying it, but you have to wonder" after starting his sentence by saying "I am going to tread lightly". In another words he said it but don't want to be held accountable. Thats a pretty smooth move.

Will we now see this in certain new threads now??

If Jeter is ever suspended b/c of testosterone use, Bayliss is going to be a golden god.

The MLB testing is a joke.......each player is tested upon arriving to Spring Training and there after only 1400 "random" samples can be collected throughout the ENTIRE league/per year.........this is roughy 3 test/year/player and one of which you know when it occurs; you fail that one you are a dumb-arse. Some players will be tested less often due to the below. If a a certain subset of players are tested 3+ times per year it is plausible that Jeter, Pujols, and others will only be tested less than 3 times/year.

Busting minor stars (Melky and Bartolo) shows that the system works; busting STARS (Jeter, Pujols, others) would damage the game; before you say Arod he came out and was not offically busted/punished by MLB.

Testing for drugs of abuse is not administered randomly, but on a basis of reasonable cause. If one of the HPAC panel members has evidence that a player has used, possessed, or sold banned substances in the last 12 months, they call a conference and discuss the evidence with the other members. If a majority vote to test the suspected player is reached then testing will take place no more than 48 hours later.

But you must also realize that testing in other sports, in particular football, is even worse. Honestly, baseball probably does more than other sports when it comes to testing, which obviously only means so much, but it does mean something.

You might want to read more about the NFL testing.

NFL quote from NY Times--
"Under the drug policy, there is no limit to how often players can be tested for steroids and H.G.H. during the season, and they can be tested up to six times in the off-season, said the league spokesman Greg Aiello."

Football testing is a bigger joke than baseball testing. In football they are allowed a 6 to 1 ratio of ept/t. The NFL would not exist as we know it without steroids.

.....and baseball is 5 to 1, big joke indeed. Fact a baseball player might be tested 3 times from ST to the playoffs; NFL can legally test any player daily.

Baseball is 4 to 1, and it doesnt matter if you test 10 times a day. If you allow that wide of a margin than it is incredibly hard to fail the test, no matter how many times you test.

Has Skip Bayless looked at Jacoby Ellsbury?

In Ellsbury's Proffesional Career (2005-2012) he has hit a grand total of 64 HR. 32 of those 64 HR came in his 2011 Season.

Jeter having seven more hits in nine less games than 2011 raises a red flag, but Ellsbury doesn't? mmmokay.

Jeter has put on about 25 or 30 pounds since he was drafted.
