I am still not putting it past them to get something like that. They got two boxes of NT football last year and each had a HUGE hit in it. I am guessing they are too stupid not to want to do the same thing this year.

I love how they cut the auto from the DiMaggio Pinnacle card that you can buy for $150 and the card will probably fetch atleast 5 bills.

I love how Beckett constantly has "conflicts of interest", yet nothing is really ever done about it. They set prices for cards they "sell" and open hot-boxes full of cards that are no longer available to people who open that particular product. They grade cards and then set the prices for what they are worth... and their magazines and website SUCK now, and they basically laugh in our faces about it. They are like the "good ol' boys" of the card industry... I just hope they go the way of the Republican Party in 2008. Their name is becoming the joke of our hobby...

I am not sure you can say they set the pricing for anything.If you want to be totally technical...what people will spend set the price.If beckett says a Bagwell rookie is worth $200 is anyone going to pay that for one?Probably not.People set the prices.

What good is becketts pricing if nobody even goes by it when making a purchase.I think the only and I mean the only thing it is good for is to set a tone of what the card can get.But I am very unacustumed to paying anything remotely close to book for anything.Not that I am against it but for the most part...everything seems to be had cheaper and sometimes maybe more.Some things go for more but what it is is the fact that some things actually are popular or rare and are able to command more than beckett would say they do.I am pretty sure I have paid way more than book for a few things but its because they never pop up.Beckett does not take this into account.They are slowly becoming nothing more than an advertisement book and grading company.Their prices mean little if anything.

And I do agree they always pull something sweet but I think its the card companies fault for giving them a juiced box.And I am quite sure things are juiced.I also believe certain boxes may go to certain dealers who buy the most.May not always be true but for the most part it seems to happen that way.

I have to disagree here, because for every person that goes by actual sell value on a card, there are stupid idiots who still use book value to purchase, trade, and sell cards.

Especially stores. Now, if beckett were to drop the prices on a product due to an infraction, I would think that the people who still use BV would drop their prices too. They wouldnt buy as much of the product, and they wouldnt buy as many singles off the secondary market. If they see that the product is HUGE in the guide (ZOMG!) they want it more and more. They buy more, they do more to get it, its completely stupid.

That is why accepting ad revenue and boxes from companies is a humongous conflict of interest. They control so much of the pricing, that they can change things in your favor if you spice it up for them, or frack you if you shoot their magazine in the dick.

I mean, look at the product reviews, have they ever given anything a bad review unless the manufactuer had already apologized?

While I can't refute your ideas about their magazines and their favoritism towards companies...I will say that a lot of the dinosaurs selling by BV are going by the wayside.

I never walk into any shop and expect to pay book value.I know I will not get everything for ebay prices but I don't expect to either.If I go to a shop and I ask what something is priced at...I don't mind them using the guide to come up with a price.But I have rarely run across too many people now days asking book for anything.Like I said before...its a rare occasion but sometimes things are priced over book and with good reason.

If I went to a shop and they wanted book for everything...I would turn around and walk out.I have had to do that probably about twice in my life so far.But if they look at a guide and the card books $50 and they tell me they want $35 and I tell them I will pay $30 they usually go for it.Of course that was a made up example but I don't have a problem with them using the guide.But its just that...a guide.Most of the time...your not going to get full book for anything.Now using it for trading is something I didn't account for and I can agree people do do this.But I also happen to think that that still does not determine the actual price of a sale.If no money exchanges hands...then the card still doesn't fetch what the book will.I may have a reggie bush auto and you may have a vince young auto.They may both book for $100.Then we trade them fair and square.Now if someone were to sell both autos...one may fetch $75 and one may fetch $60.Who knows.But the prices are always set by the buyer.Beckett will never be able to set the exact price a card can sell for.The best and I mean the best they can hope for is an average and even then...they are always off.I used to go by a medium that was between low and high book but even that doesn't seem to work.Beckett just can't control a market made up of people who decide what they are willing to pay.

Hey, I agree that BV, being the joke that it is, is going by the wayside, but that doesnt stop people from trying to use it as a pricing agent of some sort until that time. They may not use full book, im not sure who does, but they definitely go by a certain percentage. If beckett raised or dropped a product's products prices in the guide, the people's idea of value would change too. Higher values in beckett means higher sales across the board, even if the product is shat.

This is why I am not surprised that when they go crying to a manufacturer about blogs or FCB getting exclusives, they win. They have a lot to hold over the heads of the manufacturer. If the manufacturer doesnt cooperate, they could easily threaten to start the presses with bad stuff in regards to them. Its total crap. They may not come out and say that, but I would understand that to be the truth.

We know that a lot of the people in power are unethical, but its rare outside of the net to see people cast the shadows on the worst in the biz. I try, but my site makes pebble marks in the overall scheme. Its too tough to get dents that are noticible with a website that gets 450 hits a day.

I can agree with you on this. I do see how they can have an affect on what a product is worth or whether people will buy it en masse.Good points!
