but I got a huge surprise. My parents left my hospital room at about 930 yesterday morning and when they came back, guess who was with them....MATT LAPORTA! He brought tons of stuff for me, and my mom packed some of my cards to get signed by him. I thought I was going to the game to maybe get some stuff signed but he showed up at my hospital room yesterday! We chatted it up for about an hour. He's a really nice guy..down to earth but laid back. He's surprisingly humble. I asked him a few questions and he said the toughest pitcher he ever faced was the first day he was called up and it was Justin Verlander. I asked him who his favorite Indian was and he said he enjoyed watching Grady Sizemore play. HE brought lots of stuff for me including a Louisville Slugger bat (like the kind he uses sometimes) that he hadn't used yet. He signed and dated it for me, as well as a Clippers baseball in Sharpie and a ROMLB in blue ball point pen. I gave him a pic of my girlfriend and I and he asked me to sign it for him. He said he'd keep it in his locker. I also gave him a cross necklace that he told me he would wear all the time. I'll have to post pics when I get home, but it was an AWESOME experience. I'm still sitting at the hospital. As soon as they get me a wheelchair I'll be on my way. It's a 3.5 hour drive.
Also, I got a VERY cool gift bag from some of the guys here on the boards that included an Ian Kinsler autographed hat, ROMLB, two cards, some yankees cards, a get well soon card, and an Xfractor or two. I think the package was delivered by IndyMann and I owe each of you who donated for it a HUGE thank you!
Thanks for reading and for the ongoing support guys,
Anthony
