So did you send it out today, or did you decide to take my advice and keep it?

I know it's not exactly an answer to your question, but I say keep the redemption card. There's an extremely small percentage of collectors out there who would actually want that card, but if you locate one of them, you'll get more from them than you will from Upper Deck. I myself am trying to collect a master set of 2007 UD SP Rookie Edition baseball, and when I say master set I mean EVERYTHING....all autos as well as unscratched (and now expired) redemption cards. I have found the redemption cards are harder to locate than some of the more rare SP autos from the set. I happened to see a 2-year-old youtube video of a guy in Australia doing a box break and he pulled one of the redemption cards. I contacted him just on a whim that he might still have it and he did! He asked me what I would pay and I said $4 plus shipping. He accepted my offer but honestly, I would've offered much more to have it.

Anyway, you may not find many of those collectors who want your expired redemption right now, but my guess is that 20 years down the road for sure some 1998-99 SP Authentic set builder or a Glen Rice supercollector will HAVE to have that card and will be willing to pay a hefty amount for it. Expired redemption cards are discarded way too quickly these days (just like old wax wrappers once were) which is making them rare (even if nobody is taking notice right now), so don't be surprised if they are listed in Beckett down the road as a result of increased demand.

Well Said and Close to what I was going to say. You will probably get more for it if you throw it on ebay than you would trying to redeem it. If you do send it off keep us updated.

Honestly, I have waffled on what to do with this card. I am just curious if UD would do anything for me (I doubt they would, and as stated previously...I wouldnt expect them to) but I am curious to find out if this card would bring anything on Ebay. I have a stack of cards to send to one of the bigger Ebay consigners, Probstein123 and I thought I would let him work his magic on this card 1st. If I get no decent bids I think i will send this one in to Upper Deck. I will link the auction here when Probstein puts it up for sale. Thanks for the advice....I honestly never gave it a thought that a expired redemption could be worth anything

This reminds me of a 1995 Upper Deck Reggie Jackson Auto redemption card that I still have somewhere. I remember pulling it back in the day, but the card was already expired so I never sent it in. I'll have to dig that up.

Well, you could always call UD and explain the situation to them and ask if they would be willing to offer you something since you know they have been doing special offers on expired redemptions at shows and stuff. You might get someone in customer service who is pretty cool and will work some magic for you. If they can't help you, then you know you prob wouldn't have had luck if you sent it through the mail.

As for selling it on auction...I make no promises. I'm just saying that if these cards were inserted in packs, then they are legitimately part of the set in a strange way and a true set builder of that set may very well want it. Or because it has Glen Rice's picture on it, a Glen Rice collector will have to have it. The hard part is to find 2 or more of those same collectors to bid against each other. THEN you could stand to make a decent amount on it. I don't know how many big-time Glen Rice collectors are out there so there just may not be enough competition for it right now. If it was Frank Thomas I guarantee you'd have a good auction on your hands.

Even so, like I said imo there will be an increased demand for expired redemption cards way down the road because they will be so hard to find by then. People treat them like they are paper checklists that are inserted one per pack and they just discard them. Eventually a segment of the set-building collectors will realize that there are a ton of complete sets floating around out there, but NOT complete sets with the redemption cards, so they will try to acquire these and one-up the next guy by building an even more complete set. That's when I believe these will start to be listed in price guides. I say either hold onto it for a long time (just pack it away and forget about it), or if you do decide to auction it, make sure you list it as a Glen Rice expired redemption SP card.

Just another thought on that...I wonder if BGS has catalogued this card and would be able to grade/slab it for you. If so, regardless of the grade you'd prob have the only graded one on the market. Perhaps that would make it even more desirable to a Glen Rice collector?

Btw, I lived in McHenry when I was like 7 years old before moving to Gurnee. I won a Care Bears coloring contest at the McHenry Pizza Hut and won a bunch of free Care Bears stuff. So McHenry will always have a special little place in my heart! hehe

That Pizza Huy used to be the place to go in McHenry. My kids would get their "book it" points from school and we would have to go there to get them their pizzas. It was always packed on Friday nights but it was fun to go there with them. If you havnt been to McHenry in awhile you might not recognize it.

And since it is a small world, my same daughter who would go to the McHenry Pizza Hut with us now lives in Baltimore and serves in the Air Force which it appears you are living. She pretty much feels the same way you do about this area of the midwest. She hates the east coast as it is too fast paced and expensive once you experience midwest living. LOL

As for the redemption card...I understand you make no promises. I really have nothing to lose by putting it up for auction and seeing if there is any nibbles. If I get some cash for it than I am happy but if not, I can always send it to UD and see if they will honor it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!!
