Roughly, the first 30 years of first rounders have produced ten hall of Famers (yes, I'm counting guys like Jeter, Griffey and Chipper).

But, if you want to count the "steroid guys" who would be in due to their numbers (and are eligible), that count goes to about 15.

Wow. I would have bet the number was higher than that.

Since the first round includes compensation picks, I'm assuming we're talking about 1,000 or so guys in all.

The fact that only 10-15 out of 1,000 made it to the HoF shows that: 1. It's really hard for the experts to predict who will be great, and 2. You really have to be the best of the best to make it to the HoF.

You can put the Padres for one HOFer...Dave Winfield in 1973.

I looked at the rest of their #1 's and with very few exceptions, I became very disheartened.

I don't remember all of them but I recall
Winfield, rice, yount, molitor, Griffey, Jeter, chipper, Thomas, biggio, mcgwire, bonds, sheffield, palmeiro.
