These are the current auctions for the 2010 set, notice not one has a bid over $39.95 other then Dimaggio & Henderson? With names like Namath, brett, Roush, Hafey, Feller/boudreau dual all being currently under $30. How can they charge so much to slab your own already authenticated item that dosen't even sell for anywhere near $39.95???

I would imagine people taking advantage of this service are doing it for PC items and not resale. If you're doing this to make money, like everything, you are taking a gamble.

I would agree all the way. Unless you are lucky enough to get the 1/1 of the "big" dudes/stars then good luck on profit. My plan is to beef up my cut auto celebrity/musicians PC. I'm waiting for my old guitar teacher to send my his auto on a cool picture. He is Steve Lynch, lead guitar player of Autograph...one hit wonder of the song "Turn Up the Radio"

Is it the first autograph to arrive at Leaf, or the first person to contact
Brian and tell them what auto they are sending gets the 1/1?

Seems a little sketchy no??? ;)

First to arrive and be checked in...

P.s.- he overnighted immediately on announcement and the Ichiro and it was indeed first Ichiro.

If a card is graded isn't that the same as getting one of these cuts made?

You are paying for a second party to make your card more valuable.

One is made valuable by subjective grading, the other by creating a totally new card.

The thing is that what is being sent to Leaf aren't cards... they are indexs, photos, and paper.

And, when AROD signs a sticker that is put on a Card, its just ink and a sticker...
And, when a Ruth BAT card is made it isnt a cardm its a bat made into a card,...
The components are what makes the card.

Historic Autographs except its BYOIC (Bring your own index card)

Except we dont just slab index cards at full size, we make it a standard trading card sized collectible...

Its actually more appropriate to say, Leaf Cut signature except its BYOIC...
(Historic autographs came 2 years later than our cuts)...

This sir is why:

http://cgi.ebay.com/2010-LEAF-SPORT...483?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa858372b
sold for $231.49... cuts are $30-40 on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/2010-Leaf-Sport...0291749711?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item483ed45b4f
sold for $242.75 .... cuts are $50-70

http://cgi.ebay.com/LEON-DAY-2010-L...0730362443?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item3cb4bd9a4b
sold $202.50, cuts $40

http://cgi.ebay.com/SANDY-KOUFAX-20...0594508371?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item27b8399e53
sold $201.99... cuts 50-60

http://cgi.ebay.com/2010-Leaf-Sport...974?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3364d980c6
sold $152.32.... cuts $10

http://cgi.ebay.com/2010-LEAF-SPORT...328?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5adedc7090
sold $129.99... combined cut cost $25

I could do this all day, but the point is that cuts do deliver solid value.

P.s.- the problem with your post is that you only list current auctions. (A) few items list .99 let it rip anymore. (b) these auctions had tons of time left and we all know they get bid up at last second.

Dear Leaf,

5 of 6 items you listed were #'d less then /5. None I mentioned were even close to that scarce, nice try. Pulling up the best auctions 1/1's, 2/2's, Koufax and so on. Why didn't you pull up the $3.99 Virgil Trucks or the lloyd waner that sold 2 nights ago for $33, he is in HOF and deceased 29 years and he can't even get $39.95? If they worth so much, why don't you buy back the 2010's people dont want for $39.95 a piece? And put new sticker on them. Save everyone alot of time and $$.

abeabe

P.S. I agree some will get bid up, but most will not!!

Awesome project. Intersting how this was ignored so people could keep debating resale on a product which most will use for their own collections.

Essentially you are paying to have the cut matted in a decent looking frame. If someone wants to pay a premium for the framing, that's up to them.

Why are some people so revved up regarding this offer?

Let's say I take my signed Derek Jeter PSA/DNA jersey down to my local Leaf Framing & Arts store to have them mount and frame the jersey under a new special. Instead of having to buy and similarly framed and mounted jersey for much more, I have $499.99 in the jersey and $39.99 in the framing job all together.

Is this any different?

I've seen people store $15 signed baseballs in $40 glass cases, to each their own.

All in all, while I have hundreds of signed index cards, I don't collect them and rarely (if ever) flip through them. As a slabbed card, manufactured or not, it's a lot more interesting to me. Cooler still is knowing that it was my cut in that slab.

The population of the executives will be merely a handful on the majority of names....
Ill stand behind completed sales on ebay. There are plenty of places to make money, not EVERY name, but many...
BG

P.s.- I have never made a virgil trucks cut.. I think you are thinking of historic autographs, not LEAF...

I did some of the design work on the FCB one. Meaning I gave the idea of what we signed. It is boss.

Your right about Trucks, it was historic autos. I do like the idea of whoever has the most '10's gets a shot at the shoeless Joe card. Is their a leader board? If you stayed away from 1/1 you could complete a good chuck of set rather inexpensively. You'd have valuable cards and a shot at the most valuable.

Yes, but I thought he meant in a whole, what is the difference from having a cert auto graded and having a cut made...

Anyway, that's how I saw it.

Why all the hate people? Seriously, if you don't like it, you don't like it. Personally, I like this idea. Why can't you just ignore the thread if you think its a bad idea? Starved for attention much?
