So who uses COMC to sell cards? If so, tell me why I should

I wouldn't mind getting some feedback from those that sell cards on COMC. I'm realizing I have a lot of low-end stuff I would like to sell, but eBay just isn't worth it, especially since shipping went up and people don't want to pay $3.50 for a $1 card they want.

I've been thinking hard about using COMC and thought I would check with those of you that use it. The only thing that I don't really care for is the 20% cash-out fee. Seems like it forces me to buy more stuff from them or Blowout. Other than that, everything else sounds good.

Thoughts from anyone?

I haven't used ebay in years, so COMC has been my only way to do anything with the cards I don't need. I don't use COMC as a place to sell cards, it's more of extended trading. Somebody buys one of my cards for, say, $10, I look at that as $10 worth of credits I have there. I'll turn one $10 card that I didn't want into 35-40 $.25 cards that I do need. I've never worried about the cashout fee since I've never intended on getting anything back in cash. Even if I didn't sell, I'd still be buying cards by the boxful from them.

I don't sell on COMC, but I have made a few purchases and I find the shipping not too bad if you're buying multiple cards. If you're selling a single for $1 (to use your example), the shipping rate is about the same as the buyer would pay on eBay. I think for low-end stuff you might be better off trying Sportlots or even Beckett Marketplace. They allow you more flexibility to set your shipping cost, especially Sportlots which allows you to offer different levels of shipping in addition to quantity discounts. The buyer gets the shipping method they pay for, and you can sell a common for 18 cents and then ship it in a PWE for cheap.

Like I said, though, I don't sell a whole lot online, so maybe someone else can comment more on seller fees.

Hope this helps.

I also use it to sell cards I don't want to buy other cards on COMC. The cash out fee is pretty steep but depending on what you collect you should be able to find cards you want to buy with your credit. I've moved about $2,000 worth of low to mid end cards in about a year and a half. Most of it is stuff that would never sell on eBay. Plus it is really easy to just ship them the cards and have them handle all the shipping.

It looks like it's worth my time, based on what I am reading on hear and on their site. I am digging through some of my older stuff and realized that while some of them will never sell on eBay, I would gladly take a 25 cent profit on them just to sell them on COMC.

It also looks like it would be smart for me to buy the occasional card there just to sell it as my own, provided there is a profit margin on it.

Anyone else have any input?

I gave their site a gander the other day, and the people above have the right idea. I think COMC's fee structure is such that people will be non-incentivized to "cash out" the money they get from selling. By charging a 20% fee to withdraw funds(I think that is what they charge at least), they are trying to get you to pump that money back into their site, buy purchasing other cards.

Based on the fees-and you want to check their fees out, they are worse than eBay IMO(if you are strictly selling)-I don't think it makes sense to sell on COMC unless you just want to get rid of stuff. For instance, if you are just clearing space at home or something. But, if you are considering selling-I strongly recommend giving a thorough look over their fees. For as much as people complain about eBay fees, COMC makes them look cheap if you ask me.

Again, this is all based on selling-if you sell and use that money to purchase, the fees aren't as bad(again, the 20% charge when withdrawing money is the reason).

I have used them in the past, and am about to send in another batch of cards. I mainly use them for 4-15 book value cards that usually aren't worth the hassle of selling on eBay. Stuff like crap GU/Autos, short prints (A&G, Heritage, Goudey), numbered cards, ect.

i use it all the time, and i love it. The thing i like about it is that i can get rid of all my cards i dont sell on ebay, even with a starting bid of .99 cents. I also enjoy when i dont need to deal with shipping items and such as buyers who try to scam people saying their item didnt arrive. No worries about that anymore. Its like having your own online card show.

Another thing, it wont go against your paypal when you file your taxes if you like to buy cards. You can use the credit from what you sold, and buy the cards you want as you would do on ebay and paypal.

So how often does everyone update their prices? I don't think that would be a big deal for me, but I imagine over time, once I get a ton of cards on there, it could become a hassle. Or do they have it set up so updating is pretty easy?

I have a question....I have about 500-1000 cards at least I can do this with. Do I just send them in and they upload them, then I set the price for each one?

That's how it reads. They take 4 weeks (if you choose that option) to scan everything in, front and back. Then after everything is loaded onto the site, you set your prices.

I have about 5700 cards in my account and another 6500 here waiting to ship. Like many have already said, they are best for selling cheaper stuff you would have a hard time selling on eBay.

The most annoying thing to me is paying the 1c a month storage fee. It may not sound like much, but I'm paying +/- $60 a month.

People don't like paying eBay around 10-12%, so you would rather pay 20% plus a storage fee? They can F themselves for 20% on top of a storage fee. I get the "use the money on their site" thing, but that is just trading, not selling. As a seller this site sounds atrocious. Now knowing their fees I can see why so many cards on there are overpriced.

On eBay, you have to pay 15% FVF &paypal fee (and pay fee for shipping) if you sold a $1.00 card with 2.50 shipping, you pay 15% of $3.50 or 52 cents (which is 52% of the sale) and do all the work yourself so for 5% more COMC does everything for you.

As a seller, it may suck, I don't know. As a collector who uses sales to finance more card purchases, it is an awesome way for me to turn inserts and cards I don't want into Heritage autos and black refractors.

storage fee only includes cards that are priced over 25 cents. i only get charged about $4 month.

All the people i have read and talked to have praised the site. I dont think i have read anything about complaints from them from users who acutally have used COMC.

Here are my stats:

General Account Info
Items in Inventory 1,143
Total Book Value $7,569.95
Items w/o Book Price 12
Total Asking Price $3,903.66
Items w/o Asking Price 0
Items Not for Sale 5
Items Ready to Ship 5
Total Sales $8,513.48
Items Sold 4,628
Items Purchased 1,001
Items Added to the Site 4,778

85% those cards in the total sales were cards that i sold for 25 cents or less. I made a killing on inserts and refractor cards that are priced right. Also on how to manage pricing, they made it very easy to price them. Just type in the price you want and push enter and it goes on to the next card. Its one of the easiest site around for selling cards. A lot of my high end cards do sell, most of the time over ebay prices, but they do sit on the site a lot longer. Also all buyers can submit offer on your cards and you can decline them or counter offer. There are also no messages, so you wont have people complain on why they felt lowballed...

The only time i pay paypal fee when i withdrawl my credit and get cash. I have only done it once or twice. Its not a big deal since ebay has similar fees. I also have not had any cards shipped to me. I leave them in my account and usually flip them. I always buy cards by submitting offers, so i always get them below the asking price, most of the time between 30%-50% off asking price

So you pay to ship the cards to them, pay a per-card fee to submit them, pay a storage fee per-card, pay shipping, pay PayPal fees and on top of all that, you have to pay them 20% of your sales to get your money? I'm just trying to understand the draw here, STRICTLY as a seller. I have no interest in flipping/trading on the site.
