my qualm isn't with the little scotch tape that people may use to put on one toploader. It's the extra strength packing tape that people put on toploaders that you can't take off easily.

i prefer that each seller watches my youtube presentation on how to properly ship my cards before packaging! included in this feature are:

pwe "bad for you bad for me"
dummy cards "2 dummy cards for 1 dummy"
tape "the glue that binds it together pushes us apart"
new top loaders "that card should shine when she's all mine"

Do you have a soundtrack? Because lyrics are filling my head as we speak...

Here's how I see it. I have done thousands of transactions, 99% were purchases. I store my cards in a penny sleeve, top loader and team bag, so when I get a card in the mail that is already like that I am very very happy! The thing is, only about 1 in every 20 cards or so comes to me this way. The rest are taped on the top. I guess after 10 years of getting the tape treatment, I've grown accustomed to it. The worst is when there is no tape and your printing plate is hanging 3/4 of the way out of the top loader, rabble rabble.

I use masking tape/painters tape, it is easily removable from a loader.

And frankly, you are buying the card, not the toploader in my mind. As long as the tape doesn't hurt the card, who gives a crud, really?

Tape is ok as long as
a) The card can't come in contact with the tape.
b) The holder isn't taped shut and squeezing so tightly that a 130-pt card can fit in a 100-pt holder on one end.

But more important that either tape or bubble mailers is a sturdy, rigid container to hold the actual card. If you have the card in a 1/4" screwdown, I don't care if you ship it in a PWE (but would prefer you don't). A Card Saver II with nothing else in a bubble mailer is way more risky. Slap a thick decoy card or something on either side of it.

I'd rather have an overtaped toploader than a PWE and penny sleeves.

Thank you! I was thinking about this the other day - especially after I got a redemption card back from Panini and saw that they taped the top-loader down too.

I'm borderline shocked when I actually get something that's packed correctly and uses a team bag. It pretty much gets you put on my favorite seller list.
Obviously I would never give a negative for using tape......so it just comes down to being one of those pet-peeve things. I've actually had cards that had slid down and been stuck to/damaged by the tape. It's also annoying as hell, as many times the tape is almost melted to the top loader during shipping and simply getting the card out is a task. And the most obvious, why waste a top-loader, or have to deal with any of this when there is a cheap and easy alternative?

Just put a new piece of tape over it and send it out with the next mailing.

I only use 3M Magic tape. The kind you can write on. I always fold in the back to peel.

Also, you can get team and graded bags so tight they pinch the top of toploaders shut.

Or you can put the top-loader in a team bag & then pinch it shut with a piece of tape on the outside of the team bag. :D

Man, wasn't talking about you. Yours were packaged quite well. Received them today!!!

And tape isn't horrible except the super strong tape on a single toploader.

It sounds like there's no pleasing everyone =)

I use both tape and bag, as a few others do. Tape with one way folded over makes it a no brainer to remove the tape with little effort. If a buyer still has a problem with the way the card is packed, there's not much I can do.

TEAM BAGS!

Don't use tape!

When I get one with tape... it's almost always sticking to the card. At least pinch the holder shut a touch.

This is what I do as well. I do tape the tops shut (I've had cards I've purchased slide out during shipping when just in the team bags and end up with damage) but I loop one of the sides so that it is easy to peel off. When shipping cards, my main priority is to ensure that the card itself gets to the buyer in the same condition that I sell it as and that I ship it within the timeline that I state I will.

Penny sleeve...top loader (I do re-use them though, so not new, but no tape residue or anything on there)...team bag....

Then I print out the invoice & wrap the card in that like a present.

Serves as a receipt & protection.

I re-use bubble mailers as much as possible too, buying a pack of blank sticky mailing labels is much cheaper then buying new mailers.
