Maybe.

While it's true that it is a gamble I think that it's an acceptable risk.

It's already introduced a couple of new members over to here. I do hope they stay.

But hasn't it brought them for all the wrong reasons? I feel like people will stay looking at this place as a safe haven for hobby lowlifes.

I don't feel that it is that way right now.

Granted, there are less than honest people on this site right now but we handle them when we know about them.

There are better answers out there than just immediately booting people.

I guess the only difference is other sites choose to not take the chance of letting their members be scammed. When they are aware of the risk, they handle it by not having them.

At least put some sort of notification, like on the other sites, to warn folks of him. If nothing else, do that, Chris.

Does the name AKA COASTAL not do that?

Do people really not know about this?

He didn't come here to do trades, and hasn't posted in the transactions forum.

His private messages are being monitored.

I'm a pretty regular visitor and had never heard of any of this before. Maybe I just don't pay attention though

Honest question. Do you think allowing people like this back gives a bad first impression to potential new members?

Sent from my VS840 4G using Sports Cards by Freedom Card Board.com

I'm a fairly new member and I can honestly say it doesn't give me a bad impression. If anything it's the opposite. When I first joined, the whole idea of using a forum to trade (and other transactions) with people you've never seen in person or spoke to on the phone before...people who live across the country in places you've never been to...seemed a little careless to me. I imagined everyone but the seasoned vets here would be getting ripped off in some way, shape or form. I made a couple purchases that until I received my cards, I was like "What the hell did you just do, Jake (me, aka petMonster)? That's a lot of money to be sending someone in a NON-eBay transaction! You probably just got ripped off!" Every transaction I've made on here (and SCF) has started off in hesitation.

But then yesterday I read this thread (and the other one by Alex?). I wasn't around for the whole Fanbro thing so I knew nothing about it, but I found it all to be an interesting read and very informative. I can honestly say that this is the kind of stuff I imagined happens all the time on the trading card fora, but I always imagined it was going on in secret. The fact that all this came out and is being discussed for all to see, and the fact that Coastal is engaging in that discussion as well, makes me feel like there is a degree of transparency on FCB that I haven't seen on some of the other sites. Now if I had heard in a PM from some random member I was trading with that some guy named AKA Coastal was on here and he had been involved in some possible scam on a different site, I might start to question how people on FCB could allow that to go on without saying anything, but that did not happen in this case.

And like cgilmo said, Coastal is using the same name so it's not like he's hard to identify or anything. If you don't trust him because of what happened then you know where he is and you can avoid dealing with him in the future. And if you think there is no harm in dealing with him then you can seek him out if you'd like. As long as the members know what's going on then they can each decide how they feel about the situation and they can each make an informed decision on how they want to approach it.

Again, I'm not commenting on the Fanbro issue itself and I'm not defending or attacking anybody about that...I'm merely giving my opinion about the level of trust I have in the people who run THIS site, and the impression I have about the possible addition of Coastal into the FCB community.

Exactly! It's great getting new members, but is this really the type of members this site needs. Is it really that desperate that you let anyone back, despite what is already known about them???

I.E. New people who turn out to be scammers down the road is one thing, you have no way of knowing. But someone who has done what Coastal has done, then gets to come back?

He's had more than enough time to pay people back, yet there's still people who have posted that are still out, and he's still playing the victim role. Saying all the right things, then throwing in at the end how supposedly he and other mods there were out money too, so they're also victims? Load of crap.

I may not be a huge contributor, or give out contests, or write up articles, but I've been a member for a few years, and some of the things the last few weeks have definitely rubbed me the wrong way. I don't collect like I used to, so I don't break boxes every week like I did at one time, but I love this site and am on it all day reading stuff from some great members. And I post here and there when something piques my interest. Unfortunately, the biggest threads lately seem to be the biggest train wrecks.

Truth is , with Coastal being allowed to post on here , make trades or selling makes me not want to post/sell on here . If he is allowed on here what makes me think there isnt others like him on here . I trade/sell highend . I woundnt want to be put a place where I could lose money or a card .

Coastal isn't going to be making any deals here. Trade accusations are taken seriously, too. No place online can guarantee 100% safety, but I know the staff here will do what they can to make you feel comfortable. If there comes a time where you're wanting to venture into trading, I welcome you to contact me. I will - personally - do what I can to make sure it goes smoothly for you... as well as the mods who are assigned to handle the trade boards.

Edit: And we have had others - in the past - who have assumed other identities here in an attempt to escape their past. All were addressed and dealt with.

So, are we ever going to get a response from Coastal? People did what you asked and presented what they owed (although I'd guess those who posted are still a fraction of them). Now do what you said and address them.
